Wonder Girl 2022 Annual #1 is another fantastic issue in the constellation of Wonder Woman books. Its heartfelt and gives us some epic battle scenes and lots of interesting Brazilian mythology. Its exotic, fun, and highly recommended. Read Full Review
This annual was a nice reminder of all the potential of Yara and her realm of the Amazon universe. Wonder Girl was cancelled too early and maybe this entertaining issue will be the spark that renews interest in a new ongoing title? Stanger things have happened Read Full Review
Despite all of that, Wonder Girl 2022 Annual is a great issue that adds to the slowly growing history of Yara Flor and the Esquecida. The connections to Brazilian folklore and myth are brilliant and exciting, exciting enough to stand on their own as concepts. Additionally, the issue follows up on some of the dangling elements form the cancelled Wonder Girl series. This issue is an argument for putting Yara Flor's series back on the monthly schedule. The original series was trying to do so much that it barely gave Yara a supporting cast, and this annual is just as wildly ambitious, with four different artists all telling different stories though space and time. The best part of the issue is probably Emi Lenox's opening focusing on the origin of Jerry the Pegasuswhich turns out to be surprisingly tragic. Read Full Review
While this isn't a must-read for Yara Flor fans, it's still filled with fleetingly gorgeous moments nonetheless. Read Full Review
Even the power of an incredible origin story for Jerry the Winged Horse could not save Wonder Girl 2022 Annual. Rather than progressing Yara as part of the Esquecida now that she has officially become Wonder Girl we get a story that centers around her love life. Even when the story tries to focus on how all this relates to Yara's Amazon ties it falls flat because the reason for this entire story happens is not strong. Its an unfortunate waste of massive potential for what is officially Yara's first story since becoming Wonder Girl. Read Full Review
Wonder Girl 2022 Annual #1 is a mess. Wildly inconsistent art and random plot points that don't link together plague this book from page one. Rather than taking this opportunity to tie up loose ends from her canceled solo title, Jones simply makes Yara's story even worse. Read Full Review
There's a lot of potential for his character to explore Amazonian folklore and Brazilian mythology.
WONDER GIRL 2022 ANNUAL explores Yara Flor's most intriguing adversary while also adding depth to other aspects of Yara's corner.
It was a very good book. I loved this story. Joel Jones weaves a fun and intriguing story of Brazilian folklore/mythology, the action is fast and exciting, with back and forth between two simultaneous scenes, and it works well. The story is really good.
I'm so confused. Wasn't this cancelled? Pleasantly surprised, though. By this point Yara is definitely my favourite Wonder Girl, and that's not just because confusing canon and frankly bad writing has ruined all the others (looking at you, Dark Crisis: Young Justice) but because out of all the Wonder Girls Yara's fights are the best at selling her as someone wielding actual divine power.
Much more than Diana's own book, actually.
Anyway, please keep this going DC. It's nice to have a spunky heroine who isn't bagged down with a confusing backstory in which she may or may not be a secret assassin or something.
Yara Flor's stories take us to a new world, I hope that after Lazarus Planet she returns with her book.
A bit convoluted, but a fun read nevertheless. Just seems like they could've done way better with Yara Flor. Too bad she got mixed up with that stupid Trial with the terrible writers. Anyway, she's a cool character with a nice design and a lot of potential and I'd love see her written by a top class writer with Joelle Jones on art duties.
