What I loved here is that Power Girl says her last date chaperone was the E2 Superman. Just like that you know that the two super-cousins had a loving relationship, that the two super-cousins cared for each other and looked out for each other. We have yet to see anything like that with the E1 super-family. It also still makes me wonder why Power Girl hid from the E1 Kal all this time. I do hope that gets explored a little. Or that the Supergirl/Power Girl juxtaposition eventually gets looked at. But this issue was just wonderful. I was surprised to see how easily Levitz was able to establish the rapport between these two, how I was able to tell that they have been long time friends and allies. The art just glittered. And we have a decent cliffhanger as the two square off against Hakkou the radioaxtive terrorist. Read Full Review

Huntress and Power Girl might not be my favorite characters, but the creative team for this book sure doesn't care, they're doing more than enough to open up an enjoyable adventure of a pair of friends who only want to make things better. I'm all in for that. Read Full Review

Ken Garing's Planetoid is truly something special. Garing is telling an engaging science fiction story of survival and triumphing over adversity, and one of the most exciting parts is how the emphasis of each issue has changed while still remaining true to the wider narrative. Judging by the closing page of the issue, the greatest challenges for this new stage of Silas' life are yet to come, and I'm excited to see what happens. Good on you if you're already reading this. This was a great first issue for this series. It makes me want to pick up the next issue and it was a great start for the series. I hope this series is as good as it was in this issue for future issues. I recommend if you pick up Earth 2 though read Earth 2 first because this series spins out of an event that happened in that series. This is my pick for the week and I say pick this issue up. Yet I'd argue that the most important thing about Worlds' Finest is that, like Gail Simone's Birds of Prey before it, these are some three-dimensional, personality-driven female characters that aren't defined by sex appeal or directed by their make counterparts. It feels more appropriate to call them Helena and Karen rather than Power Girl and Huntress, because those are the people we know and we root for. I've never been a die-hard Paul Levitz devotee like many Legion fans, but here he delivers an important lesson on accessibility and reader investment: Character first, costumes second. This is one of the strongest first issues of any of the New 52. I'm certainly not expecting anything else this good from DC's Second Wave, but if Levitz, Perez, and Maguire can continue to deliver stories this good month and month then Worlds' Finest is quickly going to become one of my favorite DC titles. With DC introducing the concept of another Earth and parallel characters, one might wonder if they are working themselves into the same corner that required a reboot (see Crisis on Infinite Earths, Final Crisis). Now, I've never been a huge Helena Bertinelli fan, but I could totally see how by having Helena Wayne pose as Helena Bertinelli could be seen as a slap in the face to Bertinelli fans everywhere. Yeah, we realize that this character appeared in over 580 comic book issues, but we're going to do away with her character anyway. I understand the argument that you don't need both Huntresses and having two characters who are so similar can be confusing, but I kind of liked Bertinelli and her back story, so I am a little bit sad to see her go. So for a first issue it really does a great job in establishing these two very different female leads. Their friendship and the fun tone of the book are solid selling points. The art is vibrant and expressive as it captures the two heroines perfectly. It is nice to see a buddy book that focuses on strong female leads and Levitz has really made an effort to make Karen and Helena seem like capable female protagonist. Yes people have grumbled at Power Girls new costume and the actual present day plot isn't very inspiring. But this is an enjoyable read that manages to come alive due to a pair of ladies who are utterly compelling. Read Full Review

"World's Finest" is not exactly the best book on the stands, but if you are just looking for a fun superhero title starring two interesting female leads, you would be remiss to pick up this first issue " especially if you are already buying "Earth 2." What I enjoyed most about this issue was Levitz's exploration of the friendship between these two radically different women. Huntress is focused on the mission that's ingrained in her soul, planted there by her father. Power Girl is driven by her quest to return home. Huntress has rebuilt a life in tribute to her father's memory, whereas Power Girl has suspended her life to reconnect with her family. Despite their differences, they're believable as friends. They're portrayed as such when they were Earth-2′s Supergirl and Robin, and their shared loss - of family members and of their world - has understandably brought them closer together. The loss was the same, but their reactions are polarized. I expect their divergent perspectives on what to do about their separation from their home will bring them into conflict in the future, and I look forward to such interpersonal dynamics. Anyway, long story short, we get a nice lowdown on the basics, a good introduction to their character and get to see their relationship and dynamic and end the issue with a nice shiny (literally!) new bad guy for the ladies to bring down. At some point Karen Starr's investments in technology will get the duo home, and at that point we'll have a nice bridge between the two Earth's, allowing the JSA and JLA to once again team for annual adventures. But until then, I'm not sure I'm completely sold on this book. I really like strong female heroes, but for some reason, both come off more stiff than they should. The jump in the art, and the flash back sequences are more jumbled than I like, and that is somewhat disappointing. Overall, the reading experience is good, but not the knock it out of the park story I was hoping for. I'm on for the first arc of this series (though probably not print), and I'm giving Worlds' Finest #1 3 out of 5 Stars. It's worth picking up if you are interested to see where the jump will occur, or if The Huntress and Power Girl are two of your favorites. Read Full Review

George Prez has had a long, prestigious career, but this debut issue does not rank among his best work. The issue reads more like a history book than a comic because his drawings lack the natural energy found in flight, combat, and even a tense conversation. Just because motion lines are drawn behind Power Girl as she flies through the air does not mean that her amazing speed and velocity have been convincingly conveyed. Read Full Review
