Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #54 was a fantastic conclusion to the latest arc, being the best issue the series has delivered since it celebrated it's 50th issue anniversary. Overall then, this latest arc continues to showcase the truly gripping nature of IDW's TMNT universe, with complex character arcs mixed with dynamic, exciting action. This issue has been the strongest issue since the decapitation of the Shredder. Starting this new arc has taken some setting up but it's finally heading in an exciting direction. It will be great to see if Mike goes back to team up with the rest of his family at the Foot and what dastardly plan Agent Bishop has for the Turtles. I give this issue an 8/10, the art is awesome (not quite as great as Santolouco art but still great). The story is taking form and I can't wait for issue #55! Read Full Review
The shell hits the fan for Mikey and the Mutanimals here, as the secret dealings between Hun and Hob are given light. The dynamic Tom Waltz explores here isn't all too dissimilar from the trust issues reared across the series in past arcs, but again the writer is able to effectively mine the gray area between the black and white arguments presented. The character work, which has been a staple of the book since its launch, remains strong inTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The care and attention that Waltz and Eastman give to these characters enables the reader to have an emotional attachment even when the stakes are unclear. And make no mistake, the fact thatthere is no clear endgame in sight makes it more difficult to invest in this series during the month-to-month grind. Despite my misgivings about the plot's origins, we've come a long way since the dreadful book from a couple months ago"but we're also still a ways off from how great the book has been for the last two years. Wow, so much feels, I was not expecting that. There was a promise to give Mickey more attention and boy did we get it. The relationships and tragedy created here are truly compelling in a way that was actually earned.
The elements of surprise worked well in this issue. Hun never gets old!
i have to admit this issue caught me completely off guard! i didn't expect any of the events or character reactions to go the way they did. but it was a very believable turn out, and a very satisfying read. the characters are written so well! it leaves me very excited to read the next issue to find out what's next in store.
sorry to be very cryptic, but i don't want to give any spoilers. this was definitely a fantastic issue that ends on a very heartfelt note. if you love TMNT definitely check out issue #53 as well as it's conclusion here in #54.
