For the fifth installment of horror anthology THE SILVER COIN from MICHAEL WALSH, CHIP ZDARSKY, KELLY THOMPSON, ED BRISSON, and JEFF LEMIRE, the story reaches back to when the coin's cruel curse was first minted. In a small New England village, a woman has been accused of witchcraft.
The Silver Coin is a sobering, horrific read and by far one of the best comic series I’ve ever read. I’m ecstatic to see there’s more tales of the Coin coming from authors like Ram V, Vita Ayala, Joshua Williamson, and Matthew Rosenberg. Learning the origin of the silver coin and what motivates the hunger and devastation that follows any who have the misfortune to come across its path was amazing. There are questions left about the coin but I look forward to seeing if the books to come will hold more information. Overall The Silver Coin #5 is a recommendation easily given and is a series I am anxious to have the trade of. Read Full Review
I am interested as to where they can take the concept from here. Read Full Review
Walsh and Fullerton do amazing work with the art throughout this issue. There are so many spooky and eye-catching moments to be found and the dark progression of the story is bolstered by the pitch perfect mood and tone of the art. Read Full Review
It's an excellent end note for now and one that promises so much more, as the sins of the past only inspire new terrors across the centuries. Read Full Review
Overall this was a satisfying issue as well as wrapping up the five-issue anthology. It seems that the coin is still hungry and we have a whole host of new talent contributing to the next few issues. The simple yet effective story by Walsh puts a spin on the cursed coin with its birth as not some larger plot but a simple act of anger against a friend who betrayed. Read Full Review
The Silver Coin #5 is a good example of moody horror that sneaks up and captures your interest. The story may involve a witch during a time when they were hanged and use themes familiar to us, but it still finds the unease and horror in the simpler lives of yore. Read Full Review
The Silver Coin has gained quite an audience in the past several months. What had been planned as a five-issue anthology mini-series has been opened up into an open-ended engagement on the comics rack. There is great potential in the life of a single cursed coin that could be taken in all kinds of different directions by a host of different authors. There have been several writers announced for the next several issues. If success continues, it would be fascinating to see some really big-name horror writers pick up the coin and take it for a spin somewhere in the hazy march of time. Anything could happen to a cursed coin, given the right momentum. Read Full Review
This issue feels like an avalanche, starting slow, then burying us all in overwhelming horror, with some well-drawn body horror that I don't want to talk about. Read Full Review
This was probably the best issue of this first batch of stories, and I am shocked by that. I really enjoyed this one. Maybe I should check out more of Michael Walsh's writing.
This was way better than the last 2 and probably on par with the first issue. This one was a great read with some great horror type elements.
I loved #1 and was not impressed with issues #2-4 but this one was a good one.
