The Amazing Spider-Man: Daily Bugle #1 is rough. The best thing it has going for it is the dialogue, but that doesn’t really mean anything if the characters aren’t talking about anything interesting. There is no sense of coherence in the art, and you’ll find something on most pages that will break your immersion, whether it’s in the pencils or the colors. I'm interested enough to read another issue, but Peter Parker looked like Troy Aikman and that's weird.
This was pretty good, I think. It's not amazing or anything, but it's intriguing enough. I'm glad Peter is around, at least. Not a lot to say.

I... don't know. Some of the bits here were quite enjoyable (Spidey's scenes in particular), but overall this was a bit too much all over the place. I'll keep on reading this but I really really hope it improves.
It's an average comic, but it could have been a good comic with a little assertive editing to force Mat Johnson to tie the plot threads together properly.
Also: "Hey, Web-Head, you know how you can hear it when people don't pronounce your hyphen? I feel the same way when people stick an inappropriate 'Y' in my code name." Respect the "Boi" in Koi Boi, Spiderman!
