The series succeeds because of its back-to-basic approach, as does this issue. Although the degree of Parker's use of violence is made out of character, the overall approach of the character here is one which feels like it could easily happen under these specific conditions. By using what makes the character special while also setting him inside the Secret Wars world, it benefits the crossover by highlighting these traits. This is has been one of the most enjoyable of the Secret Wars tie-ins so far, and it's because it stands completely on its own as both an emotional, singular story and as an interesting study of the qualities that make up the central character. Renew you Vows is far from perfect, but it's a nice distraction form the Doom ruled Marvel universe as it stands now, I'm sure none of this will matter in a few weeks when the All New All different Marvel Universe premiers. Buried beneath a clunky story is the fact that this Spider-Man isn't as committed to his values as the "regular" Spider-Man. Slott makes it quite clear throughout the story but doesn't give the reader enough material to evaluate whether or not they prefer a slightly harder-edged webslinger. More noteworthy is the fact that Peter and Mary Jane feel content telling their kindergartner a life-altering secret and seeding lies around the rest of Spider-Man's story. "Amazing Spider-Man: Renew Your Vows" #3 is a decent enough inventory story, but not the type of tale I'm likely to go back and re-read any time soon. Its connection to "Secret Wars" is, currently, tenuous at most and the characters just don't have enough personality or vitality to make this storyline exceptionally memorable. Read Full Review

This story goes back to the emotion that the first issue had. Peter Parker has no choice but to fight now and put his family at risk. The last two issues in this mini series should be as good as it gets.
