KPB Comics - Aun Haider Jun 12, 2025

This isn't a comic for the impatient. But if you're in the mood for something thoughtful, bold, and beautifully somber, Death of the Silver Surfer #1 delivers. It's a tone poem wrapped in a space opera, and it feels like the beginning of something truly special. If this is Norrin Radd's last story It's off to a poetic start. Read Full Review

Nerd Initiative - Mickey Smith Jun 11, 2025

Death of the Silver Surfer takes us on a action packed journey with powerful moments and a wholesome twist at one point. The Silver Surfer is back in Surfer fashion. There's a beauty to the character that can be hard to pinpoint for most, but Greg Pak gets it. The art team takes the tone of the story and gives us something exciting to follow along with. You may say "Not another 'Death of' story!, but I say this one has potential! What did you think? Read Full Review

The Comicbook Dispatch - Dispatchdcu Jun 11, 2025

Death of the Silver Surfer #1 is a soulful, stunning debut that treats its protagonist not just as a hero, but as a tragic figure in the grandest cosmic tradition. Greg Pak is crafting a swan song that could become one of Marvels great space operas, and Sumit Kumar ensures it looks breathtaking every step of the way. Dont miss itthis may very well be the All-Star Superman of the Power Cosmic. Read Full Review

In addition to the stoic leading man, Pak has created an engaging, complex character in Kelly Koh. Shes a badass on the battlefield but has tremendous heart, as indicated in her interactions with her mother, whos also great btw. My only issue is that Koh apparently underwent a name change at some point because shes referred to inexplicably as Sandy in a couple panels, an oversight that will hopefully be corrected before it goes to press. The fact that Koh is basically the enemy makes her a compelling antagonist whos clearly going to have to confront her own actions, and presumably her employers, and I am here for it, especially after the reveals on the last couple pages. Death of Silver Surfer is a book that will have readers on the edge of their seat while anxiously awaiting the next chapter. Read Full Review

    AIPT - David Brooke Jun 11, 2025

Death of the Silver Surfer #1 is a moody and introspective beginning that reaffirms the Surfer's place as Marvel's most philosophical hero. Greg Pak and Sumit Kumar open the door to big questions and even bigger stakes, though some character development and narrative weight feel just shy of fully realized. Still, this is a thoughtful and artistically rich debut with the potential for something special. Read Full Review

But Why Tho? - William Tucker Jun 11, 2025

Death of the Silver Surfer Issue 1 has a captivating quality. The plot itself is still being developed, and the structure can be somewhat confusing. But there is something delightful about the aura the Silver Surfer emits. Read Full Review

Weird Science Marvel Comics - mrgabehernandez Jun 12, 2025

Death Of The Silver Surfer #1 is an odd comic. Greg Pak's tale chooses a bizarrely racist protagonist to embark on a mission to kill the Silver Surfer for no clear reason. Pick it up for the fantastic art, but expect to be put off by the story. Read Full Review

I haven’t read it yet, just flipped through the art for a few minutes.

The few captions I did read hit with impact, even without the context of the rest of the writing.

And, the art is fantastic. I’m giving it a 10 for the art alone.

I’ll read it tonight, but I don’t expect to lower my score.

I don’t understand the rave reviews. This is a truly mid-level comic, with artwork that doesn’t really do justice to the Silver Surfer, new characters that aren’t very compelling, and a storyline that’s all over the place, lacking any real grounding. Silver Surfer is one of the most interesting but also one of the hardest characters to write. If you’re making a comic called “The Death of Silver Surfer”, you better bring your A-game. This one just doesn’t deliver.
