As a one-shot tie into a very big event, do you need to read this issue? Probably not if you're in it for just the Empyre storyline. If you happen to be a Cap fan anyway, it's actually a very good standalone Cap story. We get all the classic Steve Rogers hits without it feeling forced. Read Full Review
Unless you're a completionist, you really have no reason to buy this. It's an underwhelming story in an event that has otherwise been really fun so far. Hopefully, as the story moves beyond its introduction, it will pick up, but I don't see anything of that in this first issue. Read Full Review

I liked this one. And not just because Henry County, Virginia was name dropped (It's got some beautiful vistas and some awesome parks). It's good to see Captain America fighting with the troops. At least, I think it's good. I like that they didn't try to play up the military as this benevolent force for good, but they also didn't make everyone a scumbag either. With these types of books, you expect one or the other, instead of what's a bit closer to reality (although, the US would probably help allies in the wake of a plant invasion... I'm just going to fire off that hot take). It went by quick. It's simple, but fun.
Cap rounds up a squad of GI Joe-types to go save Mexico from the Cotati. It's a refreshingly militaristic Cap adventure, something I don't think we've done in a while. The storytelling is rather simple, but by no means disappointing if you're willing to embrace the premise.
This is a solid tie-in. It can get a little too " patriotic " for my taste, but its still decent. Some good action, and a killer ending. Johnson's writing overall is fine, the art is good, but again this isn't a necessary tie in. Just something on the side to read if you want.
Just fine, the story is predictable, but I guess it's just a tie-in so I shouldn't expect a lot. I would have much rather wanted the Thor tie-in from Ram V, as that looked pretty awesome.
I didn’t like the art very much, and the story was okay.
