I thought about writing a review but really this says it all, and more succinctly.
OTHERWORLD FALLS! Merlyn and King Arthur have taken the Starlight Citadel. Saturnyne still lives – but not for long. Betsy Braddock must decide once and for all where her loyalties lie. It’s all been building to this – the fantasy ends here and reality rushes in. There is no haven for the witchbreed. Can they hold on to their champion, here at the twilight of an age?
Overall. Otherworld is a pretty good way for this book to end. Or maybe begin something new. As it is kind of left open. Read Full Review
For the sneak peak of Knights of X I do hope that we get to see the creative team be able to build on Betsy and Rachels relationship. There is a lot of potential for the dynamic to continue to flourish in future stories. This creative team did a good job finishing up some plot threads while also leaving fans for a taste of what is to come. Read Full Review
As a proposal for a next phase, Excalibur #26 is as promising as anything the current volume has produced and even if that volume has missed as much as it's hit, it'll still be hard to miss Knights of X. Read Full Review
The age of Excalibur has come to an ending of sorts, casting the light on some of the highs of this series as well as sadly showing off a great number of the lows to be found. This series' writing never agreed with me, and true to form, I find this last script severely over-written and loaded with a lot of annoying digressions and dead ends. But … It delivers *a lot* of dramatic plot development and it sets the stakes extremely high.
Combine that with clean, bold art that I really like, and this issue accomplishes its key goal of getting me interested in what happens next. I'll definitely give the follow-up series a shot.
I don't think I'm as engaged with the characters as the author would like, but I'll take responsibility for that being subjective. There's plenty of meaty character work here, and just because it doesn't work for me doesn't mean it doesn't work.
This is a rather abrupt ending, but it's continuing in a new title in a few months, so I'm not too concerned.
I'm always on the verge of being too confused to keep reading this series.
Dissapointing ending that isn't even a ending
