Well I think this a sympton of a bigger problem with the type of story being told and the way it is being told. They could had told this story through past issues.

I have to be honest: I think this series is the weakest among all the mutants ones. Hickman is probably a genius (he creates universes and species with scientific details in this series), but almost all his stories feel... Empty. We read of all these characters (Xavier, Magneto, Apocalypse, Wolverine, Summers family, Jean Grey...) but nothing happens. Flashbacks, metaphors, ideas. I personally thi more

Characters really act dumb here.
In a moment Rictor is mad at apocalypse and moments later he does what he asks and kill mutants.

Rogue do nothing.
Gambit has the chance to screw apocalypse plans but does what apocalypse asks, gambit since first issue doesn't trust him.

To me, up until recently, that was all fan fiction and people looking for what wasn’t there. Even Claremont, I believe, said he has no problem with the interpretation, but that it wasn’t his intent. Somehow that still made it canon to some.

After the build-up from the funeral issue this is a massive disappointment. It didn't push the story along enough and what we're given in terms of reunions isn't enough to warrant a full issue of Kitty meandering around Krakoa vaguely plotting revenge with Emma. Really hoping Duggan can right this ship after X Of Swords.
