THE OLD MUTANT AND THE SEA!
It's the one that got away...but not for long! The deadliest creature on Krakoa is off its shore, and the deadliest mutant there is will at last set out to hunt the leviathan he encountered on an X-FORCE mission. But can WOLVERINE take down this hidden creature of the deep that's bigger and stronger and older than math can figure? He better, because no one is safe until he does.
PARENTAL ADVISORY
WOLVERINE #19 finds our favorite mutant at sea in a haunting meditation on life and death. This may be my favorite single issue of any series this year. As someone who reads mostly digital these days, I can say that I am marching to the store to buy a copy of this issue. Read Full Review
Wolverine #19 is a perfect one-and-done story. Sure, it serves to close down one of Percy's plot threads, but it's also just a great Wolverine character piece and well worth the price of admission. Fernandez and Wilson are the perfect art team for it. They bring the script to life in a way the best art teams do and together create some stunning visuals. Not enough can be said about how great this issue is. Read Full Review
Wolverine #19 is a good example of how a done-in-one story can tell us so much about a character. Wolverine does a lot for Krakoa, it seems, and none of it is for credit. Not only that, Percy ties the acts of Wolverine to the island of Krakoa very well, keeping our interest and making sure everything that happens matters. This is a sound reminder Wolverine lives a cathartic life and a fulfilled one that's transcendent, heroic, and inspiring. Read Full Review
Wolverine #19 is a fun little one-shot, focussing on Logan battling a Leviathan off the coast of Krakoa. Read Full Review
This was my favorite issue of the series in quite some time. Yes, it was definitely more of a filler issue with X Lives and X Deaths of Wolverine coming up, but I really enjoyed it as a whole. Fernandez did a really good job on the interior art, and I found Percy's story to be super compelling. Issues like this are why I don't automatically dismiss filler issues, or even filler episodes in TV shows.
Almost filler-y issue, but it's fantastic. You want to know the essence of Wolverine? Read this.
Despite the premise being extremely simple and the character work being extremely familiar (Logan doesn't like Krakoa's utopia-ness, we *know*), the creators commit utterly and turn this one-shot into a damned entertaining little yarn.
It's not quite great. It probably can't be, due to the simplicity. But the creators push it as close as humanly possible, and they definitely achieve "good."
(Also this is a better end than Blackmore's dumb-ass Halloween pirate ship deserves.)
Seems like a neat way to wrap up this era of Wolverine, but I can't help but feel like this issue was just "another one" written to fill a gap until X Lives/X Deaths. It just doesn't feel all that consequential and I don't think it really says anything new about Wolverine. But it's not bad. It's just "another one."
Fisherman Wolverine > Surfer Wolverine.
Yeah, this was awesome for a last issue (the next one is 4 months from now), Percy really captured who Wolverine is here.
Feels like the main staff went on vacation and gave the issue to a 12 year old to draw it.
