Phew, this review got a little longer than my average review. I guess I just had a lot to say. Suffice it to say, Im really enjoying Hickmans work on Fantastic Four and, though Im still somewhat skeptical about Three as a whole, this was easily one of his best issues yet. Nearly every character felt spot-on in how they were written and all of my story problems amounted to little more than nitpicks and that speaks to the quality of the issue. Fantastic Four #584 may have just made it into my top ten issues of the series ever and I would recommend it to anyone, whether you like superheroes or not. These characters felt like real people with real personalities and, though you might not understand who some of the ancillary characters are, even new readers will get an instant feel for who the FF are. If youve been hesitant to give Hickman a try on this book, then I encourage you to at the very least, flip through #584 and see if it changes your mind. Read Full Review

As its cover suggests, Fantastic Four #584 focuses on Ben's struggle to decide whether to use the temporary cure concocted by Reed's class of child geniuses. Once again, Hickman proves as adept at injecting heart into his FF writing as he is shooting for the stars with crazy high concepts. The Thing sequences will strike an emotional chord with any fan of the character, and leave you off guard for the issue's surprising cliffhanger. Hickman's FF hasn't been told in the most conventional manner – the pacing is a little unusual and whole story threads seem to fall by the wayside for issues at a time as a result – but it's still damn enjoyable. Now with Epting on board, it appears the book is ready to kick into a new, higher gear. Read Full Review

A nice break from Hickman's usual insanity that is sweet (up until the epic cliffhanger) but never contrived. Also, see if you can spot the rather funny Easter egg cameo by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby! Read Full Review

Thus far Three is shaping up to be quite and enjoyable and entertaining storyline, and I can't wait to see just where Hickman is going to go next with this. I like the disparate plot elements that are going on all at the same time, it keeps the action moving, and we're getting some extremely solid characterization throughout the plot movements and developments. There are some nice little bits here, like the new Yancy Street Gang, something that makes you wonder just how long Hickman's been sitting on their new status quo, waiting for the right time to use it. But considering this book was wowing me when Hickman first came on board, watching it slow down is a bit disappointing. Hopefully the remaining two chapters of "Three" will have a bit more pep to it than this issue did. Read Full Review
