Not a dull moment and worth it's inclusion within this Reckoning War saga, which I guarantee will be sought after at back issue bins and circulation desks years after this story sees it's first printing within a collection that will be tattered and filled with all sorts of smudges and dust because Reckoning War will pass through many hands (dirty and sanitized) for pure enjoyment of Kirby and Lee's First Family, done right. This issue contains everything and everyone but the kitchen sink and destroys it all. Next issue is about how its all put back together. (And maybe well get the real deal on the Ultimate Nullifier?) One can only hope it finally comes out looking better than it does in this issue. Read Full Review
Fantastic Four #44 is the penultimate issue of the Reckoning War and it's serviceable. It gets all of the main characters together so the Fantastic Four and their allies can finally face the Reckoning. Some story elements have poor payoff to issues of build up while others work well in the comic. The new artists in the book are fine since they don't take over the whole book, and the pages when the art changes is noticeable but still looks good. Read Full Review
I have no doubt there will be something worthwhile in this story's conclusion, but the journey there has become tiresome. Read Full Review
I loved this entire story! It was an epic tale loaded with emotion that had me hooked from the start. The writing was phenomenal as the personalities of each character really were at the forefront especially during moments of self-sacrifice and heroics. The idea of family and love was the driving force for the hero's often as it should be in a fantastic four book. The artwork in this was phenomenal as well there were a couple panels with the silver surfer that I really loved. I think I maybe should've bought two copies of each issue as I thoroughly enjoyed the reckoning war and envision myself rereading often. I can't wait to see what comes next!!!
It tries too much since it took on too much from the get go but it actually does enough to hit the right notes when it counts. It also has misses and clobbered moments but the heart is there. The art was a mixed bag with 3 artists who give good pages and weak ones. I wish Rachael Stott would get enough time to do a whole arc because her first issue was a banger. Now, how to undo the damage with satisfactory resolution? We'll see.
It was pretty corny in some parts but, I have to admit the action felt tense and, it did a really good job in that aspect. I mean obviously Reed ain't going to due but, they do a good job with that ending.
I feel bad for the artists. They worked really hard, and though their different styles make a less-than-perfect blend (some of the different interpretations of Toomie hurt my eyes), they deliver a lot of pretty panels.
All that artistic sweat is wasted on this script. Subjectively, I certainly loathe it, but I believe it's objectively weak as well. The dialogue is lazy, stuffed with exposition and cliches and lacking authenticity. Not only do I not buy the apocalyptic stakes on their own, I'm not getting any strong connection to the characters that might incline me to care on their behalf.
Despite my distaste, I'm not rating this too far below average, and not just for the art. The execution might be shabby, but the lo more
Oh God. Why can't this Reckoning War nonsense be over?
a bland, mediocre Marvel Event. The story was boring, art wasnt good, character dialogue felt stilted, the ending was unsatisfying.
Oh well, at least we got Banner of War and Judgement Day
