‘Fantastic Four' #45 brings the curtain down on the latest wide-reaching cosmic saga Marvel's first family have found themselves involved with. And in doing so Slott sets a new status quo for some familiar faces while still leaving lots of the next creative team to play with. A very satisfying ending to a story decades in the making. Fantastic Four #45 is a good send-off for major plot elements Dan Slott introduced. One might argue he's putting to bed some of his ideas and resetting the book for another creative team, but it's done with such nuance and professionalism it feels like we're reading a classic Marvel tale. Fantastic Four reminds us Marvel's cosmic universe is challenging and epic. Read Full Review
The Ultimate Nullifier effects Correct me if Im wrong, but I was always under the impression that the Ultimate Nullifier not only blew stuff up and erased it from existence, but it also erased the user from existence as well? Obviously, they werent going to kill Reed, but shouldnt there not have been a body? I guess we can chalk that up to Reeds Watcher side being erased instead.Doom Its always nice to see Doom act a little scared or nervous. While he would never admit it, he was obviously nervous about dying in the center of a universal bomb. His statement that he knew Reed would live is also hilarious, simply because he DEFINITELY did not know that was going to happen. Oh Victor, you always have to be smartest person in the room. The Watcher Race The Luminous have officially joined ranks of alien races that are very much available to the Marvel Universe. Without their all-seeing abilities, they have been brought down to normal. However, they still see themselves as superior to huma Read Full Review
A clockwork story worthy of Gardner Fox unwinds with precision, but feels a little bit too pat, while the art is okay, but not spectacular. Read Full Review
Fantastic Four #45 wraps up the whole Reckoning War story as a massive epilogue issue. Everything is resolved and characters are mostly put back into their original places, but Dan Slott makes some big changes that feel excessive even for the Marvel Universe. It does end on the promise of new things on the horizon for the Fantastic Four and the Marvel Universe, but we'll see if these changes actually have any staying power. Read Full Review
The rushed pacing of this final issue is a bit of a shock to the system and honestly doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Read Full Review
It was a good send off. Slott does a soft landing with his ideas and give the next team a lot to work with although it feels like we have so many wasted ideas, threads and moments from these past 4 years. Slott did OK and I enjoyed most of his run but I'm ready for a big idea and a cosmic minded writer to take the reigns. Farid Karami's art was good and he has a good grasp on anatomy and action scenes. He delivered some nice visuals that looked nice with Aburtov's vibrant colors!
Felt like a lot of changes to things moving forward. It also felt like an enjoyable read but, the corny dialogue kept it from being great.
I’ve generally liked Slott’s FF run but this was a poor conclusion to Reckoning War. It’s almost like Dan got the call that he could go back to Spider-Man before he wrote this and then just phoned it in.
And with all the deus ex machina going on in this issue, why didn’t the Watcher just tell Reed how to fix Johnny??? Lol He “fixed” everything else. Including Galactus!
The Reckoning War storyline never really piqued my interest and Johnny's condition has lasted far too long. Changing Sky into a bird creature was strange and never sat right with me. This was just a clean up issue and my favorite part is how the kids were happy to see Ben return. Of all the things that came out of Dan Slott's run it was the two of them. I'm glad they finally got rid of Reed's beard. Nick Fury hooked up with the Watcher feels completely wrong and Johnny saying "I'd rather be anywhere but with them," seems completely of character. He would probably still leave, but I don't think he'd be mean about it. Snarky yes, mean no.
I hope the next storyline is better.
Well, now I know where to find the all-time perfect example of what the phrase "playing it painfully straight" means.
From the moment Reed bounced up OK, I was waiting for the other shoe to drop. And not in a "wouldn't it be cool if there were a twist coming?" way; this story is a dumpster fire without that other shoe. And it never did drop.
The art is good and the prose is okay. They're just being wasted on the stupidest, most pointless reset button hit I've seen in ages.
a pretty bland ending. At least the art looks better.
I liked the previous Reckoning War issues but the payoff ended up being a bunch of nothing. Can't wait for the new Fantastic Four writer to be announced. I hope it's Zdarsky or Ewing.
