"Gwenpool Special" #1 isn't taken over by Gwenpool, like Kris Anka's rendering of the character on this comic's cover would indicate, but that's no issue, as the creators involved collectively make Christmastime for Marvel fans a little more enjoyable. Read Full Review
Gwenpool is arguably the least essential element of this holiday-themed anthology comic. Still, her presence is one extra dose of fun in a book that already has a lot going for it. The various stories here combine to form a charming look at how Marvel's heroes come together to celebrate the holidays. Read Full Review
A somewhat uneven collection of stories featuring oddballs, new critical darlings, and an odd couple pairing of Hawkeye and Deadpool, this Holiday special manages to entertain despite some missteps along the way. Read Full Review
Cameos from most of the Marvel Universe, with charismatic moments from Ms. Marvel, the Hawkeyes, Gwenpool and more, making for a sweet holiday reading experience. Read Full Review
Gwenpool herself seems like a lab-bred creature designed specifically to catch fire with the cosplaying crowd, and although there's nothing particularly compelling about the mix of wise-cracking murderer and cute-as-a-button teenager, Gurihiru's appealing manga-styled artwork and Christopher Hastings' joke-laden script make "Gwenpool's Holiday Adventure" a solid and funny affair. Gwenpool Holiday Special #1 is a middle of the road special. Ignoring the fact that this should have been simply called a Marvel Christmas Special (Gwenpool is barely in the comic beyond her one story), the quality of this anthology is up and down. If you're a diehard fan of the characters " give it a look. Otherwise, there might be better use of your six dollars for this week's pull-list. Read Full Review
That's the ultimate goal for Gwenpool Special #1, a comic with a cash grab in its title: to be perfectly fine. It succeeds at that. The Hawkeye story did plenty for me as a fan of Duggan's mini-series, while the Ms. Marvel story is wince-inducing, but overall it averages out to complete fine-ness. This is a comic worth flipping through for Marvel fans, but it won't leave any sort of impression after one or two glasses of eggnog. Read Full Review
As a whole, the comic feels a lot like a cash grab, especially with the fact that Gwenpool whose name is in the title is within so few of the pages. This is a comic that as a kid, I'd totally have bought only to walk away disappointed. I struggled to read it all. Don't fall for the title, this is a comic to absolutely skip this week. I may be in the minority, but when publishers put out books like this I am more than a little annoyed at the disregard publishers can hold the one thing they need..readers, of which in this case, I am glad that I am not. Read Full Review
No one wants to be a Grinch this holiday season, but at the same time, there are plenty of opportunities for sequential good cheer that doesn't have to feel like a punch to your wallet. Gwenpool Special #1, sadly enough, doesn't fulfill the potential of its title character or its holiday spirit, making this feel like a halfhearted cash-grab rather than a solid Christmas special. Unless you are a completist for one of the creators involved, you won't be on the naughty list if you sit this one out. Read Full Review
Ok it was a cute campy holiday spectacular!
SHE-HULK//EVER GREEN: A decent Christmas plot, there are a few laughs and goofy villains. I like that this one ties all of the mini-stories together, but I don't get the resolution though, what's with the mirror? Am I missing something? Ruins the whole story. -- MS GRINCH: I don't get the theme that this is going for, seems to be on the fence about whether Kamala should embrace her heritage or embrace the holidays. Pick one or be more clear about what is happening to make a compromise. -- HAWKEYE VS DEADPOOL VS THE HOLIDAYS: This is the best one hands down, it is genuinely funny and a little touching. -- GWENPOOL'S HOLIDAY ADVENTURE: The title character only plays a small part, which is this short story. It has nothing to do with Christmamore
I find their lack of Gwenpool very disturbing, we better get a one shot of just her to redeem this.
Cash Grab and not for me. Someone might love it, though.
