Rated T+
Hellverine #1is horror excellence. Each part of the issue is oppressive, violent, and dark, with little hope found anywhere. Even the hero that appears turns sour and is less than eager to help. It does not bode well for Dakens future. Read Full Review
The fact is, Hellverine #1 takes big swings with what we know about hellfire, Wolverine, and recent Wolverine events. Once you put this down, it'll all make sense, fit within continuity, and offer a threat you'll seriously doubt Wolverine can beat. The high stakes are exciting as Wolverine faces new kinds of Hell. Hellverine #1 gets a strong recommendation from me, even if you haven't been keeping up with either Wolverine or Ghost Rider. Percy has shown his knack for crafting compelling stories since his days writing Marvel's audio dramas and the artwork revels in the ridiculous nature of it all. Read Full Review
This issue is different enough from the past Hellverine stories that it feels fresh. In that way its easy to get into without any prior knowledge of the character. The writing is character based. And the art is effective in many ways. No matter a readers preconceptions, Hellverine #1 shows a great deal of promise and is worth a look from most readers. Read Full Review
Do you want to see Wolverine and a bunch of cybernetic soldiers drenched in fire, killing everything in sight? Then Hellverine #1 is your comic. Do you want anything else? Maybe look elsewhere. Read Full Review
Hellverine #1 is a bland, forgettable start to a series about a character who's a derivative of a derivative of a derivative. Benjamin Percy spends two-thirds of the issue on a montage of Hellverine's origin and the last third in conversation with Dr. Strange. Readers looking for bang for their buck should look elsewhere. Yeah, this was good. I do think that it dragged on a bit in certain spots, but, overall, it was a super solid read with Ohta's art only making it better. One side note I have kind of relates to a big spoiler, so don't continue reading if you don't want anything spoiled for you if you haven't already read this issue. Okay, so Hellverine is a resurrected Daken, right? So, why does he, in Hellverine form, have all three claws coming from the same place, when he usually has two claws from the "normal" spot and one from under his forearm? Is this just how it works when he's Hellverine, or what? Anyways, this was a good first issue that you should check out if you liked Percy's Wolverine run and, at least, the Weapons of Vengeance crossover with more
Just wanted to say, in smaller images, the title font on the cover makes it look like this comic is called Halverine.
