The writing is character based. And the art is effective in many ways. No matter a readers preconceptions, Hellverine #1 shows a great deal of promise and is worth a look from most readers. Benjamin Percy spends two-thirds of the issue on a montage of Hellverine's origin and the last third in conversation with Dr. Strange. Readers looking for bang for their buck should look elsewhere. Yeah, this was good. I do think that it dragged on a bit in certain spots, but, overall, it was a super solid read with Ohta's art only making it better. One side note I have kind of relates to a big spoiler, so don't continue reading if you don't want anything spoiled for you if you haven't already read this issue. Okay, so Hellverine is a resurrected Daken, right? So, why does he, in Hellverine form, have all three claws coming from the same place, when he usually has two claws from the "normal" spot and one from under his forearm? Is this just how it works when he's Hellverine, or what? Anyways, this was a good first issue that you should check out if you liked Percy's Wolverine run and, at least, the Weapons of Vengeance crossover with more
