As I said, this feels like the start of what could be a longrunning new title, however whether Marvel Zombie SHOULD become an on-going book is up for debate – what is captured in this one shot, in these 32 pages, is perfection and I worry that Prince and co. could never improve on this; and honestly there's no need to… even though I'd really love to see more adventures of Simon Garth. The perfect Marvel one-shot for the Halloween season that puts a twist on the tired Marvel Zombies line. Read Full Review
This issue might not have offered new insight into the concept, but we're given a compelling story depicting a post-apocalyptic world where one of the "villains" is given humanity, ultimately depicting the horrific lengths supposed heroes are willing to go to in hopes of ensuring the species wins the day. Marvel Zombie #1 is a great read to get ready for Halloween. I would have liked it to be a little longer to really get the story across but it still does a good job of making an exciting entry into the Zombie story. It is not easy to create a new and exciting take on zombies or the undead-apocalypse but the creative team did a solid job of making Marvel Zombie #1 worthy of your time and money. Read Full Review
"Marvel Zombie" #1 makes me continue to hope we'll get more fun, obscure one-shots in the future. If you're ok with the gross factor, pick this up and experience the laughter and the zombies. Read Full Review
Though it may not reach the grisly heights of previous incarnations, Marvel Zombie #1 is a grimly funny Halloween read. Read Full Review
Simon Garth, Marvel's classic voodoo zombie, is injected into an apocalyptic zombie plague scenario. The script does a brilliant job of adopting a child's perspective, and the art packs a lot of skilled storytelling into its panels. Since it's a one-shot, the creators pit their premises - "friendly zombie" vs. "Marvel heroes under zombie siege" - against each other in a deathmatch. I think a lot of us would have preferred the other outcome. If this were to be an ongoing, though, I think you'd want to preserve both premises and ratchet up the tension between them.
For me, it was a very good comic overall. The conclusion was dumb af, as well as their plan. I mean, if Simon was fine for a suicide bomber, why couldn't they use a random zombie? Cut off its arms and jaw and just use Falcon to drop it from the sky... Yeah, that was stupid. But other than that it was cool. I like to see The Walking Dead concept with super heroes and everything. It's not better, than the original Marvel Zombies, but it could be a good limited series. Reminds me of the Halloween one-shot. Simon is funny and that's awesome too, because original MZ were funny too and sometimes they really were more like stupid kids. Hungry, but cute. The art wasn't the best (especially colors), but fine enough.
I dunno, it's a nice c more
I expected more from this writer and I found the ending to be completely unrealistic.
Delighted by Simon’s internal monologue, it’s all undone by a rather silly and unbelievable ending.
