THE RETURN OF THE MIDNIGHT SONS!
The original Midnight Sons reunite to deal with the vampire threat unleashed in BLOOD HUNT! But first they must defeat one of their own: Blade!
Rated T+
The writing is superb! The storyline grips you so tightly that by the end of the comic book, you're left yearning for more. The character interactions are diverse yet consistently maintain the dark tone of Midnight Sons: Blood Hunt #1. Each character exudes their own distinct personality, shining brightly throughout this first installment. Bryan Hill's talent is very obvious when reading Midnight Sons: Blood Hunt #1. Midnight Sons: Blood Hunt #1 has all the trappings of the darker and more evil edges of the Marvel universe. At its core, the creators are on a quest to find out what is wrong with Blade, and it'll take a brand new Midnight Sons to do it. Read Full Review
The real sell for the book is art by Germn Peralta and colors by Arthur Hesli, which evoke a specific kind of horror movie mood, building the world out in a colorful way before soaking it in blood and fire. Read Full Review
Midnight Sons: Blood Hunt #1 is a fine start. The comic sets things up, gets the group together, and sets them upon their mission. It catches readers up with what's going on and teases some drama in doubt that Blade is acting on his own. Overall, it does its job. What it's missing is the fun aspect. There's no joy to be found in the comic, not even quick pithy dialogue. It's about as serious as you can get in an action comic. Read Full Review
Midnight Sons: Blood Hunt #1 begins the 3-part tie-in to explain how the Midnight Sons reunite to confront their old teammate, Blade. Hill's script and Peralta's art are perfectly fine, and the story gets new readers on board with decent introductions to the Midnight Sons, but seasoned readers won't learn anything new about the team, and this first issue lacks urgency. I really liked this one.
I was irritated that the latest Blade series ended after only 10 issues, so when I saw that Bryan Hill was writing this Blood Hunt tie in, I figured I'd give it a chance. Glad I did. Solid story. Better than average art. Lots of action and intrigue. Do I wonder why Danny Ketch is sitting on an underground arsenal in the middle of the desert? Sure do. But I'm not gonna overthink it. I'll be picking up the rest of this series. I now need a Bryan Hill Ghost Rider book.
Art:4/5
Story: 3/5
Total: 7/10
This was a solid start, but not my favorite. Hill continues to have a bit of a minimalist writing style when it comes to the dialogue, which was seen in his recently-wrapped Blade series. Speaking of the dialogue, though, it was a little annoying at certain points. Sometimes, it felt like that cringey way "badass" characters talk in TV shows. I don't know if that makes sense, but that's the best way I can explain it right now. Peralta's art was really good, though. That was definitely the strongest part of this book.
Maybe I'm just out of touch with Marvel comics just now as I found this a mess. The dialogue was juvenile and the art was patchy at best. No offence but the blazing church and Tulip?? Was I reading amateur hour Preacher? Sorry but the list of mistakes kind of rattled an old fan boy like me so much. As I said current Marvel is a mess of timelines and multiverse dog crap. I would ask for a complete reboot of the Marvel universe but the thought of yet another No1
