• In all of creation, only one Earth has successfully met and triumphed over each Incursion that has threatened it: the Earth of the heroes of the Great Society!
• Guess which Earth is on a collision course with ours?
This story is moving into dark territory. Like a soldier at war, what actions are justified to save your loved ones? This story has been building slowly, but it's rich and has a powerful emotional edge. I can't wait for the next issue! Read Full Review
While Hickman delivers another strong script that poses some compelling questions, Valerio Schiti on pencils is the real highlight of the issue for me. I really enjoyed Rags Morales artwork as of late, but the strength of Schitis line work, with his delicate crosshatch shading and rounded forms, brings a softened quality to the story. His expressive style helps to add an emotional weight to the title which it has frequently lacked, often lost in muddled character details and murky coloring. Schitis pencils are beautifully complemented by Martins decidedly more neutral color choices, continuing the trend of clean lines and brighter palettes. A solid read all around for this creative team. Read Full Review
If you dropped this book long ago, no one could really blame you, but with issue #18, Hickman and Schiti may be finally on the road to regaining a lapsed readership. Read Full Review
All things considered, New Avengers has remained one of Marvel's strongest books since its debut. Even its most repetitive issues are chock full of great character moments and brilliant concepts. Read Full Review
Following the introduction of Bruce Banner into the Illuminati in "Avengers" #28, Hickman has elevated the stakes of Incursions and their ramifications for the rest of the Marvel Universe. Readers are left no avenue for misinterpretation. The heroes and leaders of the Marvel Universe are at their collective wits' end. "New Avengers" #18 is the final calm before the storm as the Great Society is on their way to stem the Incursion of their own world. Hickman has been working a long-range story throughout his tenure on the Avengers and, after over fifty issues, things are becoming clearer. I was on the edge of letting "New Avengers" fall off my pull list three issues ago. Now, I'm riveted, counting the days until the conflict between Illuminati and Great Society as the members of the Illuminati count the minutes until the next Incursion. Read Full Review
The emotional impact is obvious and good here, but the decompression makes you want to tear your hair out. You feel cheated due to the cover and the promise on the last page of the last issue, but you get very little for it. Read Full Review
New Avengers#19 feels like what it is: a filler issue before an eruption. The big fight is coming and this incursion is gonna be a biggie, but you aren't going to find the battle royale in this issue. Valerio Schiti delivers some top notch artwork to bail out the very slow script and keep this one interesting, giving readers a huge final page that will pull them back for #19 without a doubt. This issue is on the weaker side of what we've seen in the series, but as a whole, New Avengers is a title you should be following. Read Full Review
Really great issue.
Would rare higher with less cartoony art.
A good story and solid build-up for what is coming next. This series has been a slow burn, but reads well in trade format or going back and re-reading several issues at a time.
Same story, different number on the cover
