Cosmic Ghost Rider is back, baby! But with a reputation like his, it's only a matter of time before the law catches up to the future Frank Castle and tries to put him in chains - too bad for the law, chains are Castle's weapons of choice these days. Now in an intergalactic prison, the Rider is going to turn his cage into an all-out cage match! Who's going to be the last alien standing?! Find out in this all new miniseries from Dennis "Hopeless" Hallum (MARVEL'S SPIDERMAN: CITY AT WAR) and Scott Hepburn (DEADPOOL)!
Plus - Don't miss out on a brand new short story from the guys who started it all, Donny Cates (ABSOLUTE CARNAGE) and Geoff S more
This is a great fresh start for the character after a wild ride of miniseries has been taking up the brunt of his last year of storytelling. It's nice to see the character move on from his previous missions for something new and it's in good hands with Hallum and Hepburn. Add to this a backup by Cates and Shaw that seems to be putting a period on the character and this is an excellent new direction for the character. Read Full Review
Donny Cates' bonus story at the end makes this worth the price of admission. It's fortunate then that Revenge of the Cosmic Ghost Rider is a great story, helped by stunning art. I look forward to the next part of this story. Following the initial Cosmic Ghost Rider run we’ve needed a good solo story featuring him and I think this could be it. Read Full Review
I wasn't really excited about picking up another Cosmic Ghost Rider series, and the start of the story did have me concerned. But by the end of Revenge of the Cosmic Ghost Rider #1 (of 5), I was all on board with this mini-series. Hallum delivers some new and interesting dynamics and I am excited to see what he does in the next few issues. The backup story from Donny Cates is a fantastic, emotional short story that hits all the right beats. Read Full Review
REVENGE OF THE COSMIC GHOST RIDER #1 does a good job of catching up old fans of the Frank Castle spin on Ghost Rider as well as introducing him to new readers. Dennis Hopeless Hallum tells a fun introductory tale to the mini, and Scott Hepburns art style absolutely fits. Even the backup story doesnt detract from the issue. Aficionados of Punisher, Ghost Rider, and the combination of both should feel anything but hopeless about this series after issue number one. Read Full Review
The powers of the Cosmic Ghost Rider and the hero's spectacular transformations lend themselves to impressive displays already, and Revenge of the Cosmic Ghost Rider thankfully didn't squander those"or any"opportunities. Read Full Review
Awesome start, I enjoyed it.
Dennis Hallum and Scott Hepburn have done an amazing job adapting Donny Cates and Geoff Shaw's Cosmic Ghost Rider while keeping the character fresh. Hallum utilizes some fantastic narrative devices to keep the story grounded as we're sent on another wild and crazy hellfire bananza.
Donny Cates and Geoff Shaw's back-up story, "Semper Fight," is a cannot miss event which cements itself as a seminal chapter of Cosmic Ghost Rider's nascent history. The short itself is worth the price of admission not even considering the fantastic main story by Hallum and Hepburn.
Seriously, buy this book. You won't regret it.
Revenge of the Cosmic Ghost Rider 1 was an absolute delight. Like seriously, this is the best CGR story since his origin in Cates’ Thanos, and that’s saying quite a lot as CGR has been viciously overused. I wasn’t expecting to like this because of how bad CGR’s last limited series was, but RotCGR 1 perfectly balances action and humor. The return of Dennis Hopeless favorite Cammi was appreciated, and she actually steals the show a little from Frank. Hepburn’s art is fantastic as well. The back-up story written by CGR creators Donny Cates and Geoff Shaw was awesome, and one of the best backup stories I’ve ever read. Worth your money
The stylish, bloody quality of the words and art -- and the joy of pulling Cammi out of comics limbo -- do plenty to make up for the bass-ackward way Cosmic Ghost Rider stumbles into this adventure. And the B-strip features contemporary Punisher kicking CGR's ass a bit. You're more than welcome to take it as a meta-critique on how much of a trainwreck "CGR Destroys Marvel History" was.
(Am I the only one that picked up on the fact CGR didn't just fail to prevent but actually CAUSED the Castle Family Massacre in that series?)
The main story by Dennis Hopeless has its issues, but overall, I still enjoyed it. The back up by Cates was great.
I wasn’t super into the main story, honestly, but maybe it will get better. The backup earned most of the points for me here.
