But Why Tho? - William Tucker Dec 31, 2025

Sorcerer Supreme Issue 1 is a remarkable reset. Doom's disappearance has left a void, and Scarlet Witch has seized the opportunity. It's a fantastic step up from the story Orlando had already been telling, and it also fills the gaps left by Doctor Strange's disappearance. Read Full Review

    AIPT - jonathan jones Dec 31, 2025

The eve of the new year has also brought the Marvel Universe under the protection of a new Sorceress Supreme! Sorcerer Supreme #1 shows the Scarlet Witch has filled the vacancy left by both Doctor Doom and Doctor Strange, and she looks show-stoppingly good while doing it. It's an exciting continuation of Orlando's tenure with the character as well as a lovely jumping on point for new readers, and what more could we have hoped for than that? The series promises deeper reflections on the relationships with Wanda's children, her pupil, and plenty of drama with other arcane divas, and this premiere issue delivers an enticing tease for what's to come. Comic Book Revolution - Kevin Lainez Jan 1, 2026

Sorcerer Supreme #1 ends 2025 making a strong statement that it will be a comic book not to miss out on in 2026. Steve Orlando and Bernard Chang do an amazing job at showcasing why no one other than Wanda Maximoff should be the Sorcerer Supreme of the Marvel Universe. From the start with the opening fight against Dormammu to everything Wanda does to establish a strong foundation for her new role is all well done. If this wasn't already on your pull list make sure you do yourself a favor and pick up this comic book as soon as you can. Read Full Review

You Don't Read Comics - Russ Bickerstaff Dec 31, 2025

With the comic book industry being what it is, it isnt too terribly often that a single author is able to work with a singe character over the course of a number of years. Its an extremely rare occasion where an author is able to actually do something meaningful with an extended period of time with a single character. G, Willow Wilson is doing some remarkable things with Poison Ivy for DC. The years that Wilson has worked with Poison Ivy have fostered a sophisticated and nuanced personality for the Ivy. Its nice to see Orlando working similarly long-term emotional evolutions and vicissitudes in relation with one of Marvels longest-lived magic users. Read Full Review

    ComicBook.com - David Harth Dec 31, 2025

Writer Steve Orlando has been in charge of building up Scarlet Witch over the last few years, and he's been doing a pretty good job. One of the problems with Scarlet Witch over the years is that creators have only given her a few kinds of stories. She's usually either too powerful and gets driven to evil, or her adventures are defined by the men around her. Orlando has changed that, making Wanda into a character that is more than just sexist ideas of what a female superhero is. Sorcerer Supreme #1 continues this, and it's one of the many enjoyable parts of the issue. Scarlet Witch becoming Sorceress Supreme isn't a huge surprise Marvel has been working to lift her profile for a while and this issue develops why this is actually a good idea. Read Full Review

Super Hero Hype - Matt Morrison Dec 31, 2025

All in all, Sorcerer Supreme #1 is everything that can be hoped for in a first issue. It is easily accessible, while still building on what has come before. Fans of the Scarlet Witch and the recent Doctor Strange series will both find this book enchanting. Read Full Review

    Graphic Policy - Brett Dec 31, 2025

Sorcerer Supreme #1 is a nice debut that does an excellent job of being accessible to new readers while moving the greater story along. It also teases that much like the cosmic portion of Marvel's Universe, there's a focus on renewing the mystical side with much more to come. Wanda fans will enjoy it but new readers will want to check it out too. Read Full Review

Weird Science Marvel Comics - mrgabehernandez Dec 31, 2025

This is a comic that reads like the first act of a story rather than a complete chapter, and while the promise of future conflicts is evident, a debut issue should deliver more than table-setting. Read Full Review

I can't even think of a pithy comeback to the race fear in these user comments.

Really enjoying the ambivalent line Orlando & Chang tread here between "Wanda is a confident sorceress at the apex of her power doing what's necessary even when the powers that be disapprove" and "Wanda is a loose cannon swollen with hubris and failing to understand that the guardrails she's leaping over serve a purpose". I'd drifted away from Orlando's Scarlet Witch for a bit, but this solidly has my attention once again

This issue left me completely cold. Introducing Wanda as the Sorceress Supreme could have been thrilling, but Orlando chose more of the same old stuff. The art doesn't exactly help to make the issue more exciting either. Although I can see the work Bernard Chang invested in his pages, his style is not very attractive and kind of expressionless. It's all so boring, even Agatha Harkness can't make me want to pick up issue 2.
