Why are the villain issues in this series so much better than the hero installments? This story is an excellent tale of Dooku doing his Master's bidding and having to improvise. The visuals are also good, with me wishing they would join with the writer on a monthly series. For those craving Sith action and intrigue, this is a delightfully dark tale for you! Read Full Review
Beyond my expectations, Jody Houser delivered a Count Dooku story that I actually liked. I struggled with the character in the films and the TV series " partially because of the terrible name that should never have been approved " but I like the concept of it and the whole Christopher Lee element. Those are brought to life with an engaging single-issue story in a way that some of the others haven't been able to achieve. Houser's script provides for a lot going on with great pacing while Ross just gives us an enticing look at Sullust, time with Jaz'kin, and a combat-fluid Dooku that looked badass. More, please. I came away from this issue respecting Count Dooku far more than I had prior. He's a silent but deadly sort of villain who is calculating, but also ruthless. The fact of the matter is I had no care for this character, but now I'll be digging into wiki's to learn much more. Read Full Review
This book manages to deliver fans both exciting action and complex diplomatic negotiations, so, while it's not a must-read for all Star Wars fans, it will expand upon a formidable foe that will give you a new appreciation for his motivations in the prequel films. Read Full Review
Count Dooku #1 is another fantastic one-shot in what has quickly become my favorite Star Wars series running. It's a little out of step with the other Sith and Jedi stories in Age of Republic and loses the theme, but it offers a glimpse of the Count as an agent of the Emperor " happy to highlight his deftness in diplomacy and double-crossing as much as his skill with a lightsaber. Count Dooku has always been one of my favourite characters and I've always found him incredibly interesting. It's tragic how underused he is in the new canon, and this comic begins to make things right. Luke Ross' art is fantastic and fits the story perfectly. I liked that Dooku met a Jedi who was unaware he had fallen to the dark side, it was a creative way of showing how his character has changed.
I really hope we learn more about Dooku sometime soon. He's been very underserved in new canon thanks to a disappointing amount of media in the prequel era. Seeing him as a Jedi was cool as well. I hope we hear more about his bond with Qui Gon as well since his death probably had a big influence on his turn to the dark side.
