It is a fairly strong outing with a few moving parts that will eventually feed into a bigger story. I can't wait to find out the full scope of things. Read Full Review
The StoryStar Wars: Crimson Reign #2 begins with The Archivist, Lady Qiras advisor, giving a brief narrative of whats transpired so far. I love this character, she reminds me of one of the blind oracles from Greek myth, with her long sinewy hair and utterances filled with ambiguity. The issue then goes back in time, ominously Before the Fall, where Qira sends the assassins Deathstick and Ochi of Bestoon on seemingly impossible missions.I like Deathstick, though thats a horrible name! While I liked aspects of the first issue I like this one a good bit more overall for what it accomplishes in feeling more in the Star Wars universe. The first issue just had too much going on and was almost montage material for a while. What we get here delivers some good stuff for both Ochi and Deathstick that makes them characters you understand more while still keeping Qi'ra at a distance as we try to figure out what she's really up to. I know they're trying to play both sides of the fence with her but it's not landing well for me still and I hope by the end of this storyline that we get a much better handle on her in this period before the fall of the empire. This series is running towards another crossover event but is still pretty early in this series so there is still plenty of time to get on board without missing anything. Worth having a look at if you want to see more of the Crimson Dawn. Read Full Review
Star Wars: Crimson Reign #2 gives readers a bit of bounty hunter action with Ochi and Deathstick, but having a huge plot point from the Bounty Hunters series happening here feels odd. It looks great throughout, but this series has felt smaller than I thought it was going to be, but maybe that's me and my crazy brain hyping it up too much. Hopefully, there will be more to hook me in the next issue. Read Full Review
For fans of bounty hunters and assassins, you'll like appreciate seeing two underutilized characters who aren't often featured in other mediums getting their time to shine, using their respective methods to achieve their deadly goals. If you're not particularly a fan of them, however, this issue largely feels like it's just planting seeds for a bigger story without being especially engaging in its own right, resulting in a somewhat frustrating experience. I know they are trying to turn qira and crimson dawn into this powerful group that moves behind the shadows but it just doesn't really work. They are trying to cram a story and make it feel important while setting it in between the small window between episode 5 and 6. Qira is no threat to the empire and by trying to make qira into too big of a player is hurting this story tremendously. I like her character and ochi has turned into one of my favorite marvel star wars comics characters but they need to stop adding too many things to finished plots. We all know what happened in the original trilogy. Marvel has no idea how to handle the star wars universe or they just aren't allowed to do anything original.
