Both from an emotional and action perspective, Star Wars: The Rise of Kylo Ren isn't pulling its punches in giving Ben and Kylo fans everything they felt the films were missing, while also offering exciting and unexpected connections to various corners of the Star Wars mythos. Read Full Review
The issue ends there; we won't find out how Ben escapes this predicament until next issue. This issue continued to be incredible. It's turned Ben into even more of a complex and compelling character than he already was; the small character moments like with Ben's name add so much, and the hints of things to come are really exciting. Soule continues to be the best Star Wars author out there, and Will Sliney's art is really good too (but not perfect..... young Ben looks kinda bad). I can't wait until #3! Read Full Review
:This issue was well-paced, threw off some dazzling colors and effective fight panels, and ultimately set us up nicely to continue the overall story. It provided excellent context and background into the two sides pulling at Ben's mind, and it seems totally reasonable that seeds of doubt may be creeping in. Admittedly, this reviewer is only a slightly more than casual fan of the Star Wars franchise. However, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't excited to follow this book and see how it plays out. Overall, this second installment is an intriguing offering that moves forward in the past. Read Full Review
While I do wish the Knights of Ren got utilized more in the films, they're basically the Boba Fett of the sequel trilogy and not even fully. So giving them time to be explored more leisurely in comic form is welcome because we see how instrumental they are to what happened to Ben and his transformation into Kylo Ren. These are all things that were likely drafted out at some point and considered as canon but ended up on the cutting room floor in some department. Bringing it to life here will frustrate those that don't read comics but for those like us who do, it's a pretty solid story that explains a number of things and takes us deeper into the well of resentment that seems to make up who Ben is. You know you have a good comic in your hands when your biggest complaint is it ended before you were ready for the issue to be finished, and Charles Soule, Will Sliney and Guru eFX accomplish this with Rise of Kylo Ren #2. Read Full Review
Soule does an excellent job filling in this gap, but is hampered by forces outside of his control. Read Full Review
There's plenty of great content in this second issue. I'm definitely locked in to this story and Soule was the perfect writer to tell it.
Seeing more about Snoake was great and Kylo's constant contact with Snoake through the voices in his head were just like they described in Rise of Skywalker. It would have been good to know a bit more about how the Knights of Ren started and it seemed that they were found way too easily. But overall a solid issue.
One of the best Star Wars series. Seeing the origins of the Knights of Ren and Ben Solo was fascinating. And the Luke fighting scene is worth the price of the book.
Prelude:
Soule started The Rise of Kylo Ren off well last issue, let's see how he goes in this one.
The Good:
The Snoke scene was really interesting.
Bad ass Luke!!!
High Republic Era sounds interesting.
Knights of Ren were cool.
The Bad:
Nothing
Conclusion:
Art improved to a decent enough level and everything else was amazing. Cliffhanger is a bit typical but what can you do?
Shoehorned, to say the least : /
