Ultimate Comics Spider-Man is a book that has had a proud legacy for its entire existence, and I can say that since Miles Morales became the lead of this book, it hasn't missed a beat. Despite a stumble in Miles' motivation to becoming the new Spider-man, this issue wraps up his origin nicely and creates an encounter that can lead to a lot of fun. I still commend Bendis for his ability to write Miles as a sympathetic and relatable character, and it looks like there are still a lot of growing pains to go through for our young hero. By taking the approach set forth in the final page, Miles' adventures are going to be very interesting as he is integrated into the Marvel universe. I look forward excitedly to the continuing story and am thankful that Miles is a character I care about and that the proper time was taken to get him where he is now. Read Full Review

Sara Pichelli's pencils look incredible this issue. The art quality has had its ups and downs since she started on the title, but here she outdoes herself. The reliving of Peter's final moments are every bit as emotional as the original, while she continues to help develop Miles through his bevy of solemn, determined, and at times snarky facial expressions. Her attention to detail is spectacular, especially the church, which looks so realistic that it could be mistaken for a photograph. She and Bendis have crafted this tale with great care, and while every twist might not be the best, the overall quality of the title continues to be a good reason to come back. Read Full Review

Sadly, since Spider-Man is part of a much larger universe, this heel-dragging is necessary; you can't just throw Miles out into the world without some kind of context, and this issue was meant to provide it. The Uncle Ben credo gets passed on to a new hero, the Daily Bugle gets another Spider-Man to harass, and Miles gets the satisfaction of trying on a new "super-suit" for the first time.
