• The first appearance of the Avengers of the Supernatural!
• When the producers of the Mojoverse can't make a hit series they call on Mojo to gather an all-new, all-creepy Avengers!
• Can the Uncanny Avengers survive the wrath of an unleashed Spirit of Vengeance?
This is still an annual and, rather than being a jumping-on point, this annual decides to fly the opposite direction and go completely mad. We get to see the roster weve come to know and love as well as a whole new Avengers group that may be a one-off, but I for one would love to see more of (even if its literally the least marketable group ever assembled). This book is, ultimately, a hilarious and, at times, frighteningly accurate satire of both the comic book industry and media in general, as well as the media surrounding the media and...if I keep going on like this, am I play INTO its narrative, or am I hanging a lantern on it? If the current story arc of Uncanny Avengers has been proving to be too much of a grind in terms of enjoyment, Uncanny Avengers Annual #1 is sure to re-light that spark of fun for The Avengers Unity Squad. Read Full Review
Uncanny Avengers Annual #1 offers a welcome change of pace for the series, tossing readers a few rays of sunshine and levity to balance out the crushing darkness of the main series. The script is a ton of fun, with meta-commentary on the absurdity entertainment industry in general and comics in particular. And the art proves to be a solid fit for Remender's goofy side-story. Hopefully the Avengers of the Supernatural concept will be able to find some footing elsewhere in the Marvel universe. Read Full Review
This is a book that doesn't require any actual reading of the Uncanny Avengers series so I'm recommending this to anyone and everyone. This is something I'd expect from an Indie publisher, not Marvel. This issue is a biting stab at what probably reflects some of their own past, and possibly present, practices. Read Full Review
The Bottom Line: Even if the characterization takes a back seat to the plot and satire, you will still find some satisfying Uncanny Avengers action/interaction that has been missing inthe main book since it's caught up in its alternate future. If you can accept the heavy-handed parody inherent in a story centered around Mojo, then you can enjoy the fun. Read Full Review
All in all, it was a decent, but not great book. If this was the way that Uncanny Avengers was always written, I would take it out of my pulls. But, it's an annual, which are allowed to have a different style and be more light. I think many people will love this book, even though I didn't. Read Full Review
This isn't the second coming of "Asgardian Wars," but it is a fun reprieve from grinding stories that plod along. I would have loved to see more of this story, but Remender and Renaud do a fine job giving readers just enough Uncanny in this one-shot. The Mojoverse can be a slippery place to get a handle on, but Remender has shown he understands it, and better yet, he's able to work with it. "Uncanny Avengers Annual" #1 is exactly the type of over-sized fun, slightly-off-the-beaten path Annual that I grew up with. Of course, it certainly helps to have such a wide range of characters and a solid pair of creators. Read Full Review
Uncanny Avengers Annual #1 is not for everyone, and I fully expect comment after comment about how much people hated it, but as an out-of-continuity one-shot, it's not bad at all, with some lovely art and cute character bits. Read Full Review
I cannot believe I am in a world where I am slamming the Uncanny Avengers Annual this hard. I was looking forward to reading this, it has all the cool supernatural characters in the Marvel Universe interacting with the Uncanny Avengers, that's fun on the table! Instead it was all used as a commentary on criticism and television culture in the worst way possible. I am not a hater of Rick Remender, I've liked his Uncanny Avengers overall. While there will be those that adore this comic for how it operates and that's fine, it's just not a story I personally enjoy. There is no story, nothing happens and you pay $4.99 for it. In a world where there is much better reading, this is not a comic to waste your time on. Read Full Review
Some of the most fun I've had reading a single issue in a very long time.
I wanted like it, I really did but I couldn’t tell what I was reading was actually happening, on a TV, or in Mojo’s imagination
