You're on to something. The best parts of this series were written by Ram V and Torrun Gronbekk. Ewing's contributions were, by far, the weakest issues.

A truly near flawless close to the limited series. Now we head into All-New Venom #1 and what could this mean as there was a MAJOR cliffhanger at the end of this issue. Could the unthinkable really happen? I won't spoil it but hot damn, what a final panel. Read Full Review
From the top rope, Venom War #5 lands the ultimate finishing move in an excellent finale. It delivers a knockout finale packed with jaw-dropping action and an emotionally-charged finale that not only closes this chapter with style but also sets up a thrilling new era for Venom. Read Full Review

I'm incredibly conflicted on this issue. It has great art, first and foremost. I think the writing is still strong for what it tries to do. But it's severely lacking in a lot of areas. And it's partly because this is an end of an era, but not a satisfying one.
We desperately need an epilogue between this and All-New Venom. It's really odd that Venom Volume 5 ends with #39 that has only one panel of the main characters of the run.
Meridius was the biggest disappointment. He was build up to be this big bad since #1 but I would say introducing Carnage just made everything worse. Meridius was beaten twice by Carnage, so that just made him as the big bad less threatening. His masterplan was also poorly showcased, I think it more
this was not a bad event. But it was confusing and I wished it could have been better. I wished Meridius was more threatening. I wish Dylan Brock was more interesting. King in Black may not be better conceptually, but at least it was interesting and easier to understand.
Overall, this was jut a let down for me. Which is a shame, because I admire Al Ewing for being bold and introducing cosmic concepts, but with Ram V leaving and it shoe-horning in Venom zombies, it just felt lackluster.
It was a little corny. Didn't really pay off much of the journey we've had along the way. I did like the Old Man Dylan part and I was really intrigued by the ending, but it really didn't send us off to the next series with a great issue.
Well, this was just awful.
This whole series was a major disappointment for me. The art was fine, but the story was appalling - from the pro wrestling set up, to the contrived confrontation between Dylan and Eddie, to playing hot-potato with the symbiotes, to the underwhelming villain. This was a mess from start to finish, and it's on brand for Al Ewing, of late.
I'm glad this is over. I was hoping Ewing would move on from Venom, but, alas. The best parts of this latest run were by Ram V and Torrun Gronbekk.
