THE VENOM EPIC OF THE FALL STARTS HERE!
During a routine battle with the villainous Jack O'Lantern, Venom finds himself transported to a far-off world and learns a terrible truth - a deadly new species called the Poisons has emerged from the vastness of space, and to make matters worse, they're hunting Venoms! Rated T+
A great beginning that captures the spirit of fun of 1980s Marvel comics. There's nothing deep, just action and adventure starring Venom and slew of familiar faces bonded to a symbiote. If more Marvel comics were like this, I'd be buying more Marvel comics. Read Full Review
Venomverse #1 is a solid introduction to the "Venomverse" event that gives us just enough to want more. Cullen Bunn, Matt Yackey, and Iban Coello form a cohesive team that knows where they want to take this story and how want to do so. Read Full Review
A good intro to the world as Eddie Brock serves as a surrogate for the audience who knows nothing. That said, the event doesn't seem that big yet and is more of a singular story about Eddie. Read Full Review
Overall, a really good start for something which I admittedly had zero expectations. Itll be fun to see where this story goes from here. Read Full Review
Venomverse #1 is a solid start to an event that feels like turn your brain off fun. It's nothing that's groundbreaking and treads previous storylines with a Venom twist but for a late summer/early fall popcorn story, it'll fill that gap nicely. Read Full Review
Venomverse #1 is fun from cover to cover! The creative team delivers the goods with a satisfying opener that allows enough space to get the ball rolling on this event. What we have here is not high brow entertainment by any stretch, and it's not trying to be, but if you're a Venom fan then picking this book up really is a no brainer. So by all means rush out and grab yourself a symbiote drenched copy! Read Full Review
Venomverse should be a fun event if it continues to not take itself too seriously. Read Full Review
As it stands, it's too early to tell if black is more fitting for the Marvel Universe, but as a debut, Venomverse's beautiful artwork has my interest piqued for a second installment. Read Full Review
The first issue of Venomverse from Marvel (with Cullen Bunn) was exactly what I thought it was going to be, in a crammed together confusing mess. Read Full Review
Venomverse #1 boasts strong artwork, but that's about all propping up this otherwise bland, unremarkable crossover. This series gives readers little reason to care about either the cast of Venoms or the enemy currently hunting them. It's clear this event is meant to tap into the strong response to Spider-Verse, but it only replicates the most superficial elements of that story. Read Full Review
Now that was FUN!!!
Eddie Brock finally gets pulled into Venomverse, the AU-spanning war between Venom-wearers and the new "Poison" parasites that want to eat them. "Not wanting to get eaten" is all we get in terms of motivation for Team Black Goop, and that's just not enough to turn me into a cheerleader. Some gorgeous, detailed art by Iban Coello bolsters this issue and hoists it above average. This series has my attention, barely, but I need a *lot* more compelling plotting and/or characterization *fast*.
Want to be your FLCS's Karnak? Point out that this is not as much a Spiderverse ripoff (though it certainly is that) as it is a new installment of Marvel Zombies with the serial numbers filed off.
As the start of an event I didn't think this issue wasn't as good as it could of been. I think it was on par with the x-23 edge of venomverse issue but not quite as good as the ghost rider one. However the art and Cullen Bunn are enough for me to continue to read this event.
