You Don't Read Comics - David Harth Jun 1, 2023

X-Force #40 kicks off a new story for this book in the best way possible. Percy takes a standard dystopian future story and throws a curveball into the mix, which is pretty great. All in all, this is a fantastic read thatll hook readers immediately. Read Full Review

    AIPT - David Brooke May 17, 2023

X-Force #40 is a compelling look at how far Beast will go to win and how the ragtag crew of the X-Force can solve problems on the fly. It's nice there's a resolution to the issue, but it's a bit too easy. That said, this series continues to take big swings, and for entertainment value, there's plenty to enjoy. Read Full Review

This was a really fun issue. While I am not the happiest that Kid Omega has returned, he is the catalyst for the start of an interesting plot which I assume will resolve Beast's villain arc once and for all. Time travel plots are tricky to write and make them feel like they have any value, but I feel it is handled fine here, even though the future mutants and future Wolverine-bot don't end up mattering, and I am still left wondering why they couldn't prevent all this by just staying in the present and eliminating Beast there.
There are a few areas that stuck out as highlights of the issue. The first of which is Colossus. A data page on the Chronicler was both informative and humorous as he tried to write faster than the plot developed. more

Gotta start with the snarky joke:

"Yeah, well, I'm gonna go build my own Sins of Sinister! With blackjack! And hookers! In fact, forget the Sinister!"

Setting the snark (mostly) aside, this is a pretty fun read. Definitely not a smart one, and it honestly does feel a little too derivative. But the cartoony art and the indulgent pace are clearly telling you that priority one here is chuckling at the jokes and the absurdity of it all. Agree to meet it on its own silly terms, and it's a damn fine comic.

And there's a glimmer of heart,too--mainly in the empathic way Sage suspects what's wrong with Quentin.

Not as into this as past storylines, but it definitely has potential. This just felt a little too wacky for me in certain spots, with one example being that Wolverine head that only says "snikt." Hopefully this becomes a little more interesting with the next issue.

I might be done with this series. It was pretty decent for a while, but now I’m finding less and less enjoyment. This issue was just silly.
