ONE-SHOT / PARENTAL ADVISORY
Overall, X-FORCE ANNUAL #1 was a happy surprise that I think all fans of the series will enjoy. Yet, if you don't have the money to buy both issues of X-FORCE this week, this may be the one to skip only because it is the annual and it's more like an extra story. The plot may come back to surprise you, however, it felt like an addition more than a necessity. Read Full Review
X-Force Annual #1 is a good adventure thanks to the mix of action and building on what X-Men comics of the last year have done. It's a little thin in parts, but generally, it's a good time and fits right in with the X-line of titles. Read Full Review
Theres a promise of a new chapter for the mutant CIA, but the claim seems to be hyperbole, as were not presented with anything that feels new or groundbreaking. Arts serviceable, but the style just doesnt match with the tone of the story. Read Full Review
All the while the book keeps tipping its hand at Beast having some nefarious plot while leading the group from Krakoa. That winds up being more interesting than the action of the book, which is just okay. Read Full Review
A fun, entertaining story with intriguing repercussions going forward. That said, though, both the art and dialogue weren't always my favorite. The dialogue, particularly, whenever Shammas made it sound to generic or "witty" if that makes sense. However, I still found the issue to be relatively strong as a whole. It just could have been higher.
Emma talking the talk but is she walking the walk?!

Beast is a... Beast. And I have a feeling he will be the trigger to Krakoa's inevitable downfall.
This is a simple spy story with some more complex reflection and foreshadowing lending it a nice depth.
The storytelling in words and art is quite clear -- sometimes excruciatingly so. The dialogue has a few killer lines, as well as a lot of exposition. The art features good facial expressions and dynamic blocking; also some goofy anatomy.
I can appreciate a simple story executed with solid journeyman skill. If it takes few risks, it makes no great errors. That's an accomplishment that's too easy to overlook.
