It's always great to see various members of the Valiant Universe come together for a comic book. It's also fun having those same members' often-battled foes to join forces. For fans and readers relatively new to the Valiant Universe, the story is well-laid out, giving ample backstory to each of the characters within the issue. Read Full Review

Armstrong and the Vault of Spirits #1 is an enjoyable read wherein the characters really do carry the story. Armstrong and his friends bring a lot of joy to the story. Cafu, Derrick Robertson, Diego Rodriguez, and Andrew Dalhouse collectively make the comic quite gorgeous, and there are a lot of laughs and emotionally weighty moments to be had. This one gets a recommendation. Give it a read. Read Full Review

More seasoned readers of Valiants line of comics will definitely find much more to appreciate in this one-shot than a casual passerby who happens to pick Armstrong and the Vault of Spirits up. That said, revelations such as I do have a bottle from the actual cask of Amontillado over there! and the light-hearted approach to action and adventure certainly make this a fun read and one that would be a fine springboard for an annual, light-hearted adventure to bring together the Valiant heroes with near-limitless story potential. I have to say that I find that Valiant are putting out some of the highest quality books at the minute and I hope that this wonderfully balanced little universe doesn't fall victim to the changes to personnel behind the scenes. This issue was fun as well, and it would serve as a nice little entry point for new fans. Okay so the story itself was a little bit lightweight but it was a fun tale, and I enjoyed it. Now pass the wine. Read Full Review
A dialogue-heavy story with little action, its still an interesting read. Humor blended with seriousness, and a slight jab or two at religion gives this book an awkward feeling, but not necessarily bad. With this being the first issue, it will be amusing to see how the rest of this story pans out. Read Full Review
Armstrong and the Vault of Spirits #1 may be a one-shot but I could see this being a type of story they return to each year. One where they can find new ways to connect to Armstrongs lengthy past to further his future development. Despite some minor quibbles, it was an enjoyable tale that wets the appetite for future Archer and Armstrong stories. Read Full Review

Arts - It's maybe not perfect, but this is strong and funny. 2/3
