This was a strong first issue of the new storyline. We got some new lore to add to the Valiant Universe while good character development for both Ninjak and Punk Mambo. The art was spectacular, with strong detail and conveying emotion well while showing us some out of this world backgrounds. The writing was very strong on both stories and make you want more. Ninjak #10 is an impressive start to the Operation: Deadside story arc and the intriguing conclusion makes me look forward to what will happen next. Neville narrating the majority of the issue doesn't take away from feeling engrossed in the story although I do wish it touched on the first team's battle with Ember just a little bit more. However I really like the Deadside so far and the combination of Ninjak and Punk Mambo. Good thing this is only the first issue because I really want more. Read Full Review

Operation: Deadside is underway and while the promoted hype about this storyline revolves around of a certain shadowed someone, Ninjak #10 actually is a refreshing jumping-on point that stands on its own merits of superhero spy fantasy euphoria. Bizarre, confident, and captivating, the wild espionage heroics supplant themselves into Kindt and Braithwaite's new surreal landscape with ease. Punk Mambo gets to steal the show and the storys structure allows for a smart starting point to the darker (and hopefully even more insane) shadows to come. Read Full Review

I wanted to dislike this book for a couple of reasons. Certain Valiant books seem to be running out of steam and there is the fact this is about magic! After reading the book however, Ninjak is not on the verge of losing its way, with Kindt throwing curveballs and despite the magic elements and the required amount of explanations, I did enjoy the book. Ninjak #10 is a nice reintroduction to the DeadSide. The story is simple and brings us to a new side of DeadSide as well. Interaction and dialog between the characters are great. Artwork for both stories is good at best and colors lend well to both stories. I didnt find this setup issue to be strong but if a few things were changed it could have been great.
