The Armor Hunters storyline continues to live up to the hype and is easily one of the more interesting summer events currently happening in comics. Venditti, Bernard, Rodrigues, and Reber provide some incredibly fun storytelling that expands quite a bit on one of the members of the Armor Hunters, Primary. There's even a deeper connection to Primary and the armor which will change a lot of fans views on this character who actually comes off here as pretty compelling. However, this issue feels more like it should be a mini-series tie-in than interrupting the main X-O MANOWAR book, but all-in-all, X-O fans will love this issue. Read Full Review
The execution of this first chapter in a brand new arc of X-O Manowar is simply fantastic. The quality work of the creative team gives some serious weight to this all-new starting point and proves that the Armor Hunters story will only continue to be even more gripping. This issue is a great one that tells an origin that will most likely continue in the pages of issue 27. It is always great to learn that little bit extra about your heros enemy, especially as they are due to go head to head. Little does Aric know that Reebo has encountered the X-O Armour before and survived. Will Aric be able to withstand the threat of this Intergalactic task force or has our hero finally met his match? X-O Manowar #26 serves as a good starting point, while fleshing out characters who have a higher purpose in the Armor Hunters event. We don't see Aric, but this is a necessary break that we have from him in order to bring characterization to the villains considering the main series is only 8 issues. Where things go from here is uncertain, but we can all be assured that any questions we've had about the hunters will be explained through X-O Manowar. Read Full Review
Those are really debatable points, though. What I need to explain, as mentioned before, is that Venditti does a hell of a job connecting plot elements. No detail feels insignificant in this series. What does this mean to a reader? This shows that the writer has taken time to create an elaborate tale with orchestrated parts that converge into a greater story. X-O Manowar #26 is a solid issue detailing Reebo's first encounter with the armor and therefore showing his understanding of how dangerous it can be in impressive fashion, and as a result successfully establishes his motivation for hunting them. In a way this is also my first encounter with the armor and aside from some hiccups in Wince's tale the destructive nature of the armor was made clear to me in this engrossing issue, and the motivation of the armor hunters makes the conflict with those on Earth defending it more interesting. The issue also has great artwork, for the most part. The penciling, courtesy of Diego Bernard, is consistently excellent. This is especially obvious in the opening pages, which take place in a bar in the farthest reaches of the universe. The numerous alien species all look great, and the crowded setting is a perfect place for Bernard to flex his artistic muscles. Unfortunately, Brian Rebers colors dont quite match up. Everything looks unnecessarily dark, as if darker shades of colors were used in place of their lighter counterparts. In some places, this works, but in others, it makes the book look a little bit dull. Read Full Review
X-O Manowar #26 is a perfect jumping on point for new readers looking into one of Valiant's flagship science fiction titles. Although it's a great introductory issue, it's only just that " an introduction and set-up to a much bigger story. Love how detailed and seamless this Valiant event is
Not a bad issue, but I don't have much interest in reading the villain's back story unless there is more to say with it. Perhaps more purpose to this back story will be apparent as it progresses. Like it or not, it looks like it continues. At least we got to see a different variation on the Manowar armor.
