Loads of action. A little too fast pased I think.The art by Rags Morales and Rick Bryant is nice. Not as nice as my variant cover by Jim Lee but nice enough. Lot of perspective shots. I will be grabbing #2 next month.

Jeff Lemire, the writer of the book, has something great going on. I think he is best known for his works on Sweet Tooth and Atom. His first tale with Animal Man is dark and moody but it also shows some common family issues.

The story feels a little contrived. The ending to the issue seems like it comes out from far left just to get the reader to buy the next episode. There hasn't been any payoffs for the reader yet.

If you like your comics somber and depressing, this one is a good choice for you. Animal Man still struggles to build a healthy relationship with his family. Paparazzi and media still annoy him. In the end, he tries to confront The Leaders of the Red. Though, that part was probably the most amusing. It's still a very sad issue though. It can only get better from here I guess … Or rather, I hope.

Axis is a comic for Marvel fans who are somewhat interested in the newer happenings of the Marvel continuity. It follows a lot of threads that have been established from Avengers vs. X-Men all the way up to Original Sin.

There's not much to say about this book. It's GOOD. Gail Simone writes a great Batgirl " abled or disabled. She smoothly introduces the character and what has happened to her. I felt like there was just the right amount of explanation. I'm intrigued by the plot even though the villain isn't named or described. The villain's agenda is kind of revealed in the beginning but that just drew my attention into hoping the character will get out of the situation. I'm looking forward to the next issue.

Yes, you should even if you're of the non-female gender. It'll get you thinking about today's privacy issues.

You're not missing out on much. Robin's dead so Bruce Wayne is sad and has to deal with it, the only way he knows how – beating up bad guys. Harper Row, a young vigilante heroine in training, notices Batman is a little weaker when beating up even normal thugs. She sets out to help him get over his little hurdle. The End.

Scott Snyder knows how to setup and stage a mystery tale for Batman which shows that while Batman is intelligent, he can still be snuck up on. The opening of the issue begins with an evil Bruce Wayne confronting Jim Gordon and the GPD. It reminds me of Michael Mann's movie, Heat. The issue also contains some reflections about the late Damian Wayne. The main spotlight of the issue is the protagonist. While I won't spoil it, it caught me by surprise still even though this plot has been done dozens of times.

Batman is one of the top selling comic books for a reason. This issue is one of them. Though the result of the plot may be inconsequential, the story and art are top-notch.

Jae Lee's art is always incredible to look at. His faces though sometimes seem too alike. The writing in this issue is subtle to say the least. A lot of the action is left up to the imagination which is mostly a good thing. There's some inner monologues from all the characters and the Batman/Superman doubles. But there's not a lot of telling the reader what exactly is going on or what the protagonists are doing about their situation.

The art shows good craftwork with stunning angles, low and high, and details. There are shots that match the mood and environment. I especially liked the angles that were chosen when Batman was telling Robin about the night Robin's grandparents died. The artwork is by Patrick Gleason on pencils and Mick Gray on inks. Colors are by John Kalisz.

Not looking forward to the next one.

I can't give high marks for this book. I was bored. Though the art somewhat saves it, I just cannot get into the character or story at the moment. If I had to characterize this first issue I would give it the following: emo, bland, and pretty.

Wow! J. Michael Straczynski nailed it in his story about Dr. Manhattan that combines past, present, and future. There is even a unexpected short epilogue that shows Dr. Manhattan after he leaves Earth. The best part of the book is where the main character switches from Dr. Manhattan to Ozymandias and the book physical switches orientation. Phenomenal!

More of an explanatory conclusion that leads right into Watchmen. This book could have been called “Right Before Watchmen”.

Even though Rorschach doesn't do a whole lot in the last book of his mini-series, it ties up things very nicely. It gives some background on things going on during the riots. Brian Azzarello can write great transitions. Every ending sequence segways into the start of another scene perfectly. Even though it does it many times, it never feels clich. The wit Brian puts in this book is top notch. Not to mention the gritty artwork by Lee Bermejo. The images are noir-like, detailed, and engaging.

Growing up and loving fantastical adventures like The Never Ending Story and The Adventures of Baron Munchausen this was right up my alley. May not be for everyone but it's a great dark/mysterious introduction to what might be a great family adventure tale.

More down to Earth, gritty Earth actually, superhero story. What makes this issue good is that it shows the reader what is going on while not actually telling the reader directly what is going on. Sure, some of the characters are clich but they all help define the world. The story pacing is good and there doesn't seem to be a dull page.

The story gives more twists and turns and keeps the action flowing. Aphrodite IX is featured on the cover and in several panels in the book. The family feud is getting bigger and the villains get closer to launching their grand scheme. It's a well done issue.

Damsels in Excess had me hyped since the preview issue during Free Comic Book Weekend. I'm excited to continue reading about these princesses, their animal companions, and their Land of the Five Realms.

Issue #2 of Damsels in Excess sets the main story in motion and drives the main characters apart. Some become villains or protagonists and others are driven to survive. The plot thickens like a moist red velvet cupcake.

Damsels in Excess keep telling a great tale of princesses in a dreadful situation where death and war are imminent. What's going to befall our lovely damsels?

Simple story of Starfire, living in some village. It's not made clear if the village is on a planet or in a ship. Or if the people are enslaved and she is just in hiding. Kori means well but none of the villages seem to like her; especially the former leader and this slave girl. It doesn't show Starfire in the best of light. Artistically, the issue is pretty bad as well.

Because it's Deadpool. But seriously, tell me another super hero book that pokes fun at classic literature.

Deadpool is awesome. In this issue, Deadpool ranks up a tremendous body count. Even though some of the kills happen off screen or in the past, it must be around a hundred or so. It's also the quality of the destruction that matters. And boy does Deadpool know how to do a job with gusto. Even when he requires help, he seems like a no-caring-do-it-all-or-go-home kind of guy. There's also a very satisfying ending which closes a chapter Deadpool left open in the first issue.

There aren't many apocalypse scenarios featuring a deranged murderer whose goal is to destroy the idea of ideas. The writing is well done and paced. It begins by showing some of Deadpool's kills and then starts with his fight against Scylla and Charybdis. His next kill basically kills all the ideas for Marvel heroes and their teams. And then concludes with his battle against Sherlock Holmes and Co. Deadpool goes crazy a lot in this issue especially with the voice in his head. Though, all of his 4 wall breaking comments and random remarks are thoughtful and funny. The ending is bitter sweet though so expect the unexpected.

Joe Bennett on pencils and Art Thibert on inks draw this issue pretty well. He uses good shadowing and expressions. Death on people's faces look like death. There are a few simple panels but the set pieces look grande. The colors by Jason Write are good as well using an almost pastel look.

There is not much story or plot in this issue but the action is intense. This is a case of the less is better. This fills my gap of action anti-hero who enjoys the deaths that he strokes.

Diogenes Neves and Oclair Albert are drawing a beautiful book. It's a fantasy setting so there's a bit of the extravagance but it's not as over the top like in the World of Warcraft books or Frank Frazetta paintings. It sort of feels like Record of Lodoss War. I really like the facial expressions too as they remind me of what medieval warriors faces would look like when they're raging. Colors by Marcelo Maiolo are awesome as well.

I can't give this book enough praise so I'll just end it right here and say go buy this book right now.

Overall, the book was good but I hope the main plot jumps back to the Joker or something different from just a regular money heist.

The issue introduces too many plot threads without spending enough time on them. You have Penguin, Emperor Penguin, Zsasz, and the death of Damien Wayne (aka Robin). That's way too much to juggle in one issue.

The book has some improvements that it could do. If you're a fan of monsters than you'd probably like this story. This issue focuses mostly on the people trying to survive though. Plot A is about a dad and his daughter. And Plot B is about a team fighting back the monsters in the city and trying to find a place to bunker down.

This is a great story that mixes Japanese folkore and European folklore to good effect. It concludes a long arc about Rupunzel and her first journey to Japan and then her return to Japan to find her children. It has fantastic artwork and good writing. Though the paper to produce the comic is cheap, I still feel that it's a premium product.

Reynard T. Fox tells a moral tale about his one and probably only romantic engagement with Princess Adler, the dryad. You would think naked dryad ladies would be pretty hot but this story shows that they are nasty. They may look nice on the outside but nature never intended for these plant and tree creatures to mate with flesh and blood creatures. The issue is told well enough but I feel that the punch lines could be driven harder. The jokes seem coy and smart. The characters though have dull personalities.

It's like an old school 80's martial arts film mixed with Harry Potter done well. The world is defined perfectly and the reader quickly connects with the characters. The main character seems like a run of the mill nobody but shows startling progress at the end. Of course the main character will be able to dominate all the school's clubs, but it's going to be a blast reading about it. Jimmie Robinson has me hooked!

Concludes the first fight in surprising fashion even though we know the main protagonist uses his smarts to fight. He's a regular young Sherlock Holmes. He always seems to want to make friends and does. So he's not a loner type who will get through this all by himself. Rick the Stick also doesn't seem to be a push over so the challenges do get more difficult for young Shainline. There are also so many mysteries to this world. Like how does the nurse know the future? Why does the Principle O wear a monocle? Why's Rick the Stick always mad? What's up with Shainline's family? This book keeps me constantly intrigued and I'm digging the action sequences and dialogue.

Tyler Shainline does quick and somewhat dirty work of Rick the Stick in their all out brawl. Shainline continues to refuse using a weapon to defeat his opponents and tries to outsmart and also out plan them. He's a regularly Kaiser Souze, thinking ahead. He's an symbol to us lazy folks. In this issue, he befriends Joon the Loon and dates/crushes on Jade the Blade. There's your inevitable high school festival in which all gooses are cooked. Tyler challenges both the Exotic and Archery Weapons Clubs at the same time. What is he nuts? No, he just crazy. Lastly, there's a lot of mystery going on with the faculty and some steamy animosity between the Nurse and Principle O. Let's get it on! Only two more issues.

I'm taking away 1 nut because it reminds me of Hellboy a lil too much but all in all, a rather enjoyable comic.

Art by Dan Jurgens and George Perez is good. They pick really good shot angles. Writing by J.T. Krul is decent. I think what stands out though is the coloring by David Baron. The colors are bright, bold, and beautiful and he does a good job keeping them consistent throughout the book.

The art by Doug Mahnke is pretty good. Clean lines and he draws good looking humanoid aliens. The colors by David Baron are vivid and consistent between the green and yellow lanterns.

This book has potential and hopefully the next issues will be more exciting since we have the setup.

I hope the book gets more interesting because this one is looking lackluster so far.

This damsel in distress story shows how vulnerable Hawkeye is to pretty ladies and tells it in a well organized way. I love how every page gives a plot point and then in between the points there is a sweet pinup cover of the damsel. Another well written story from Fraction with classy artwork from Aja.

Matt Fraction and David Aja just know how to write an interesting story and use many technical elements throughout. This issue uses flashbacks, subtlety, and repetition to good extent. These devices really drive the impact on Clint Barton's choices and the ending of the issue. There is a twist that wrenches at your heart if you've been reading from the very beginning.

Nothing spectacular happens in this issue. Mark finds out his girlfriend is preggo, confronts Robot, goes to check if Cecil is not doing anything bad with Dinosaurs' corpse. The only meaningful thing happens at the very end where Cecil punishes Omni-Man finally.

This is a classic tale of how can children live up to their parents. These parents being superheroes. This book will probably be equal parts The Runaways, Irredeemable, and Invincible. The artwork is pretty clean and I'm loving this Bryan Hitch cover. There's one hilarious part where a villain is taken into a dream world while his body gets beat up. I've seen this done in manga and anime so I'm not surprised. However, I still think it was done very well. All the main characters seem to be jerks except for the parents, Utopian and his wife. Therefore; there's really no connection to why I should get the second issue.

This well done recruitment story shows a more funny side to the Justice League's antics. All the characters shine in this episode; especially the comedic ones like the Flash and Firestorm. Even the serious ones like Batman, Nightwing, Cyborg, Black Lightning, and Superman have interesting things to say. Not much happens in this issue but even so, it was a good read. The plot was well organized. It starts with Cyborg reaching through the Internet to contact various superheroes and then goes to a board meeting with the original Justice League and then to the recruitment meeting. A short action sequence takes place where most of the new characters get to do something; especially Firestorm and Atom. This issue shows that there may be a bright future for this bigger group. Lastly, the artwork is good. Not fantastic or great but good.

Geoff Johns writes a well thought-out issue featuring some of the new members of the Justice League (namely The Atom and Firestorm) as well as the other members (minus the Green Lantern). It opens up with a villain who looks like the main character from Wanted and is full of mystery and intrigue. Superman and Wonder Woman's dating secret is out and they all will see the repercussions from it. Wonder Woman also starts turning heel (evil, you could say).

It doesn't do a good job of describing the new world that the characters are forced into. There is a lot of plot going on but not enough that a reader can relate to. One word comes to mind when thinking about the story: confusion.

Good conclusion to the arc. However, the team doesn't do much. There wasn't really a villain in the story. Therefore, I had no clue who to root for or what to make of the war that was going on. Tim Hunter lets out this huge lighting blast and almost destroys a whole city. Fortunately, Vikar and Zantanna decide to make friends and help save the citizens. It was all very convoluted with no rhyme or reason for what was going on. Luckily the art is drawn very well and the special effects and color make the artwork pop.

I've lost my faith in Jeff Lemire and Ray Fawkes putting together a cohesive story. The opening of this new arc obviously begins with a hook – who was trying to kill John Constantine. Who is this Cult of the Cold Flame? The next act brings Swamp Thing into the mix. They use him to try to locate their missing House of Mystery and in the action of tracking it, the team gets separated where they must face their own trials. Now I thought this was a team book; however, there isn't much team work going on. They have no plan and no backup plan. The only thing saving this issue is that Boston Brand has the hots for Xanadu now. I'm guessing he's over Dove and she's over him. However, is Etrigan/Jason Bloog over her?

I kind of got a Ultimate Avengers feel from this. Nick Fury was replaced by Mr. Briggs and they're both black to boot. I really like the international feel though. The chemistry between these characters has plenty of potential. The Russian and Chinese generalizations aren't original but they made my giggle.

I'd say this book is a pass.

Surprisingly good. I thought this book was going to be a generic gung-ho GI-JOE title in a Call of Duty style but actually it's only like Call of Duty. I didn't expect super heroes to be involved too but the way they are shown, through the eyes of a soldier, works for this book. I hope it will always be from the perspective of the soldier, i.e. Joseph Rock. Also, there's another 7-page mini-story at the end. And it's a good one too!

The story by Eric Wallace starts off showing Mister Terrific's abilities against a jobber and then goes into a little bit on how he became a superhero. The story then builds up to some strange entity that posseses people and ends with Mister Terrific's being not so terrific.

The book was written and drawn by Dan Didio and Keith Giffen. I've been a fan of Keith Giffen since the days of that crazy bastich, Lobo. Inking is provided by Scott Koblish and coloring by Hi-Fi (too cool for a full name, huh?). The art is big and seldom are there pages with more than 5 panels. That fits well with this huge monster of a protagonist. I'm intrigured and will be picking up #2.

Somber issue where Jason Todd aka Red Hood spends the whole issue bedridden while Bruce Wayne aka Batman is sitting in a chair, brooding over him. Red Hood has some weird dreams and nightmares with the Joker, the person who killed him before and is trying to kill him again, and Ducra, his other mentor after he first died. Basically, this is an issue where Jason slowly comes to reality that he still has his bat family for support. The issue ends with a nice hug.

This issue revitalizes the series and gives it new breath. Arsenal aka Roy Harper and Kori aka Starfire go in search of Jason Todd aka Red Hood. Jason dropped off the face of the map to get rid of his past. It'll be explained in the next issue how he did this, how he left Bruce Wayne back in Gotham. There are many comedic moments and drama. There's the anti-villain Essence who blocks Arsenal and Starfire's path to find Jason. And there's an hilarious part with a native Himalyan person speaking English and then not speaking English. Overall, a very good read.

This is an interesting book and I can't wait to read what's next. DC Dark seems to be getting the best books" IMHO.

Brian Vaughan knows how to weave an episode. He utilizes lots of writing techniques like flashbacks and transitions to good effect. For example, there are two flashbacks used in this issue: one at the beginning and one towards the end. They are both meaningful and interesting to read. The art is always lovely – simple, elegant, and easy to understand the characters emotions.

There's nothing bad that I can say about this issue. This one focuses not on the protagonists but on one of the antagonists. It develops more of his back story making him more relatable. However, I still feel like he shouldn't get his way since he's chasing after the good guys. I guess he can't help it that his race and the people he works for are portrayed as a tyrannical evil militaristic culture. Anyways, trust me when I say that you'll get a kick out of this issue " despite the crazy politically incorrect images in the beginning.

I have to point out the colors and special effects though. They are great! The pallette is bright, neon, and futuristic. Not so bright as in Tron Legacy but bright enough. Eye-candy!

Overall it's an okay first issue. Nothing to get too excited about.

Because smoking hot Zealot from Wildcats plays a part in the issue. Because there are numerous jokes and innuendoes throughout the issue. And because it “seemingly” concludes the arc that started with Harry Tanner's betrayal a long time ago.

The story is stale and boring. This issue introduces readers to a Stormwatch team and new unnamed villains who can control time. The team are just alternate version of the original team from the New 52. There are a couple new characters like Hellstrike, The Weird, The Forecaster, and Force but they don't add much in this issue. The team is assembled and then they probably confront these villains in the next issue.

All in all, a wonderful introduction to a set of villains which I don't know what's going to happen. Are they going to do bad things still because they are evil? Is the government evil? Do the super heroes know that the government is doing this? Who is Voltaic and King Shark? And why is King Shark hilarious even though he only has one work he repeats over and over (i.e. "Meat!")? Stay tuned for answers in next month's issue #2 review.

The artwork is decent but could use a lot of improvement. There are many panels where detail is lacking and it feels rushed to print. Also, the protagonists are never told anything of real use and this always puts them in a predicament. That seems a little contrived to say the least. I'm starting to lose my faith in this series. It still has a lot of potential though.

This was a cheap action issue. 75% of the issue is Suicide Squad facing off against Red Orchid (Yo-Yo's sister) and Regulus . Why Regulus is still alive is anyone's guess. There's a brief flashback of Yo-Yo and Red Orchid's super power origin story which ends abruptly. There's also some stuff about Amanda Waller and Kurt Lance. In the end, I thought that the writing is everywhere. There were cheap jokes and the art is okay. Just look at the image above and don't tell me that's not the ugiliest group shot that Suicide Squad has ever taken. Voltaic and his eyes are pretty derpy too!

The artwork for the book is clean; almost anime like but without the huge eyes. Actually, the style reminds me a lot of the drawings of Cory Walker and Ryan Ottley in Invincible. Though the proportions are more consistent throughout the comic. Superboy is drawn by RB Silva and Rob Lean. Colors are by the Hories (the Who-ries?).

I'm giving this 5 nuts because it has a great reveal in the beginning, some nice artwork, good dialogue, and keeps me anxious for when Superboy finally confronts the Teen Titans.

The artwork is different. It has a grittier feel to it. The plants look great; though as I expect from a book about plants. Yanick Paquette is doing both the pencils and inks so he is earning his paycheck. Double duties isn't for everyone. The writing by Scott Snyder is great and I could really feel for this character. There are also cameos by other DC super heroes in the comic " one of which has a brief dialogue with Dr. Holland.

This is Scott Snyder's last issue of Swamp Thing for now. He tidy's up the story arc very nicely. There's not too much lovey dovey but there are moments of genuine reflection.

After the Rotworld arc, Alex Holland transforms into what Swamp Thing does – a protector of mother nature. This issue shows that he goes to various places where weird things are happening with plantlife and stops it from continuing. Even if there is some good coming from the occurrence and benefitting humans, Swamp Thing, will remove it anyways. In essence, Swamp Thing, has lost his humanity. There's a cool sequence which shows Swamp Thing transporting himself to another side of the planet. The last sequence is a small confrontation with Scarecrow. Even though the cover displays Superman, he isn't anywhere in the body of this comic so that was false advertising.

Nothing too exciting happens in this issue. We are shown a new community called the Kingdom, lead by a man named King Ezekiel. He also hates Negan and his Saviors and it looks like he'll fight against them. Meanwhile, other subplots are fleshed out a bit. Michonne wants to become more outgoing and friendly. Carl needs to improve his awareness because of his lack of seeing what can be on his right side (if you didn't know, he's missing his right eye). Then there's a twist at the end like there always is.

Walking Dead manages to keep a steady pace. Nothing exciting or thrilling happens in this issue. However; the horror and the scares are coming back. Most definitely.

It's a pretty intense transition issue but lacks in focus. There are a lot of balls being juggled around and the plots and characters don't move as much. Redmond and his son get out of the jam in the opening and then fall into another at the end. A new villain is introduced in gruesome fashion. And the FBI are still running in circles.

This was a great conclusion that added some new mysteries for another volume. The pacing was perfect too. It starts off with the action sequences in the house and then ends with a climax between Dr. Morrow and Nostrum. Also, there is a hilarious reprise of some dastardly doctors from another dimension. Actually, a lot of the side remarks (especially from Dr. Morrow) and comments are comedic and used in good form. They make the horror story a little lighter but it matches since the artwork isn't very serious looking. All in all, this was worth the price and I'm glad I collected all of the issues.

A good middle story that builds on the plot, establishes future conflicts, and keeps the reader on the edge of his or her sitting apparatus. Uses very sciencie terms in ways that the reader doesn't have to fully understand to enjoy.
