A brilliant ending, to a fabulous run. This was probably the most emotional issue in the series so far, and in my opinion the best. I would highly recommend both this issue, and the entire series, and am looking forward to seeing what Soule, and Kano do with the series. Read Full Review

As a final issue, it's an absolutely fitting end. I've said before that the battle against the Rot and Anton Arcane felt it went on too long. But that's part of what made this issue have a bigger impact. It's not often a writer can make you truly care about the characters. It's a bittersweet ending in what happens along with this being Snyder's final issue. It's been a great ride. Having Yanick Paquette and Nathan Fairbairn on board for this issue as well was the cherry on top. There are some truly beautiful images here. This issue managed to fill me with emotion. Thankfully it was the last issue I read for the day. I'm left feeling emotionally drained but that's a good thing. Snyder left the series on a great note. This is a perfect ending to this run of Swamp Thing. All of the loose ends are addressed, and both Alec and Abby are put in new and exciting places for the new creative team to spring from. One area issue #18 offers clear and dramatic improvement over last month's installment is the art. Andrew Bellanger's pencil's weren't "bad," merely badly suited for such a dark, horror-tinged storyline. Fortunately, Yanick Paquette is able to rejoin Snyder for one last hurrah with the characters. His moody, lushly detailed panels and striking page design is back in full force, and issue #18 rivals anything else he's delivered on the series. Or in his career to date, for that matter. Snyder's farewell is poignant and on target for this series. The writer's work finally comes full circle, closing his adventure for Alec Holland while establishing a new beginning for Swamp Thing. Snyder even sneaks in some humor into the issue, which helps ground the story despite all the zaniness and cosmic level grotesquerie occurring in this issue. While I'm unsure where upcoming writer Charles Soule will take the legacy of the Green and the adventures of Swamp Thing next, but I do know that I've enjoyed this past year-and-a-half. Snyder redefined the avatar of the Green and Yanick Paquette celebrated the horrendous aspects of the character's visual history while delivering stunning new interpretations of page and panel composition for this title. Overall, the Rotworld story was pretty satisfying, though the ending seemed a bit rushed. The problem I see it is that with this conclusion, we get a reset in a way of both series. The next issue will be a perfect jumping on point for new readers. We'll see though, if these last 6 months has really paid off, for those of us there from the beginning. Read Full Review

When it's all said and done, Snyder's run is over. The one thing that I did enjoy was the ending. It ends on a strong note, which sets up Swamp Thing very well for Charles Soule to take over. So, if you've been reading Swamp Thing and you have that itch for a conclusion, pick up Swamp Thing #18. If you want to start picking Swamp Thing up, just wait for Swamp Thing #19. Read Full Review

The emotion in this issue seems gravely misplaced. There is almost no hesitance when Alec decides to kill Abby and not even her wonderful new design can make up for that. Really, I'm just glad "Rotworld" is officially over for Swamp Thing and we can now get on to something else which will hopefully take this series, which has been particularly disappointing to me, to the next level. If not, my dedication to the Green may be worn away to the breaking point. However, it could go either way with the next issue, which I just learned has a different creative team since this was Scott Snyder and Yanick Paquette's last issue. The new creative team will bewriter Charles Soule and artist Kano and I'm looking forward to seeing what they can bring to the table - though I have a feeling a lot of people who have been enjoying Snyder and Paquette's run on this series (and I know there are many) will not be happy.
