Tyrone Tony Reed Jr Comic Reviews

Brainiac is the most frightening thing in Absolute Superman #11 and this is something that terrifies every AI-sentient being, even if they wont admit it. I can't wait to see what damage it does and how it affects the characters and the story to come.

Even though Absolute Superman #12 is primarily a flashback issue, its a great jumping on point if you have missed any issues before this one. If you arent up to date, go back and read the previous issues as we all prepare for the fight of the century, Superman vs. Lazarus Corp.

With emotional depth, visual grandeur, and mythic stakes, Absolute Superman #13 reminds us why Superman remains the heart of the DC Universeeven in worlds twisted by darkness. I saw more of the classic Superman characters Ive loved for decades reflected in their Absolute counterparts in this issue, and it made the Superman fan in me smile, cheer, and crave more.

Ive said it before, and Ill say it againthis has been my favorite comic book series of the year. What a way to end this story arc and this year with a fantastic issue that brings everything weve learned about the Superman of this Absolute Universe together. The upbringing and spiritual visitations from Supermans Kryptonian family to his brief but impactful time with the Kents struck the heartstrings throughout the series, and especially in the final pages of this issue.

Absolute Superman #15 is a great opening to a new story arc, which ties up some of the threads from its predecessor. Im excited to see where this next story arcs takes Superman and his cast of characters, especially with the arrival of a new classic superhero at the end of the issue. I have really grown to love, understand and empathize with this Superman and Im so glad I gave this series a shot over a year ago.

I loved Absolute Superman #16 this creative team, this story, this universe, and its characters. If I had never read a classic Superman story and this series was my first introduction to the character, I would still love Superman just as much as I do now. Over the years, Ive heard people say Superman isnt relatable. Ive never agreed. But if I heard that argument today, Id point them directly to this series. It feels strikingly close to the world we live in nowminus, unfortunately, the superheroes.

Absolute Superman #17 genuinely unsettled me. What I loved most is that even in the midst of this horrific situation—the unstoppable threat of Parasite—the hope represented by Superman continues to shine through. This issue reminded me that even in the darkest moments, whether in people, situations, or entire universes, light can and should prevail.

Absolute Superman #18 is a solid, strong issue that effectively sets the stage for a new chapter in the lives of Clark and Lois. Lois remains the same relentless, determined force she has always been—whether as a journalist or as the daughter of a general. We also begin to see the profound impact Superman has had on Ra’s al Ghul, and how that influence is shaping his relationship with Talia. There are also exciting teases here—a glimpse at the rise of King Shazam, what appears to be the presence of a Teen Titan, and possibly even a member of the Superman family as we know them in the main continuity.

Absolute Superman #19 is another explosive issue with a strong story, incredible action and meaningful character parallels. With the focus centered so heavily on Ra’s, King Shazam, Superman and Steel, Lois’s presence almost slipped my mind from the previous issue. That does not hurt the story. It simply shows how fast these powerful forces are colliding.

Absolute Superman #20 is another banger of an issue, and I cannot wait for the next chapter—especially after that final page. The action scenes are powerful, the off-panel action is described in vivid detail, and the story never loses momentum.

Absolute Superman #21 is a powerful conclusion to another excellent story arc and an imaginative reinterpretation of the name Shazam. From Superman’s contingency plan in case he does not survive to the pivotal choices made by Jimmy Olsen and Hawkman, the issue delivers meaningful payoffs alongside the breathtaking action that has made this series consistently compelling.

This new story arc in Absolute Superman #22 sets the bar high for everything that follows. I cannot wait for Superman and Brainiac to finally face each other. How can Superman reach a seemingly soulless being as he has so many former foes? What options does he have against an entity made from more than 400,000 artificial intelligence beings? Aaron and Ferreyra open this storyline with action, emotion, horror and hope while reminding us that Superman’s greatest power may be his refusal to give up on anyone.

When you have a great creative team that works great together, you get a perfect issue. Even without any super battles or millions of dollars in damages or deaths from a natural disaster, a great story was shared, a deeper look into Clarks upbringing, values and morals is explored and a person who will shape his feature is introduced. I cant wait to read the next issue!

Action Comics #1097 delivers a near-perfect blend of character, emotion, and time-travel intrigue. It deepens Clark Kent’s journey while reinforcing why Superman remains one of the most enduring and relatable heroes in comics. Paired with a compelling cliffhanger, this issue doesn’t just continue the story—it elevates it in meaningful ways.

Action Comics #1098 is another top-notch issue. I know Superman is missing, and while I hope and know he will eventually be found, I hope it is not anytime soon because I love this time-travel arc and the heroes selected to be a part of it.

Part 2 of “Kingdom of Zod” in Action Comics #1101 ends on an exciting note as two characters who understandably don’t get along bury the hatchet and prepare to take on Zod. It’s the kind of ending that immediately makes you want to pick up the next chapter.

Dark Knights of Steel II #1 is an exciting, beautifully illustrated return to one of DC’s best Elseworlds universes. Taylor balances romance, political intrigue, humor, mystery and fantasy action without making the issue feel overcrowded. The character guide and recap welcome new readers, while longtime fans receive meaningful developments and a cliffhanger that makes the next issue essential.

Dark Knights of Steel II #2 keeps this new chapter moving while giving readers shocking twists, turns and jaw-dropping revelations. We didn’t see Bruce at all this issue, and that’s perfectly fine. There are so many interesting characters, relationships and storylines in play that everyone needs to be given room to breathe, while characters come and go from the story as needed. I’m locked in and can’t wait to see where this series takes us as we journey deeper into these characters’ lives, loves, loyalties and the enemies threatening everything they hold dear.

DC K.O. #1 is the event comic readers have been waiting for: bold, cinematic, emotional, and unrelenting. It's the kind of book that punches you in the gut, leaves you gasping for air, and makes you stand back up for another round.

DC K.O. #2 was another great issue, no punches pulled and a lot of great moments, including one between Wonder Woman and Etrigan the Demon (hilarious and full of rhymes) and two between Luthor and Superman. I want more, and thats what DC Comics has promised us. There are 10 DC K.O. tie-ins next month, including the following battles: Superman vs. Captain Atom, Wonder Woman vs. Lobo, Harley Quinn vs. Zatanna and Red Hood vs. Joker, before we get back to the fray.

DC K.O. #3 is another fantastic issue that pulls no punches while sprinkling in nostalgic nods to classic DC Comics events and eras. There are very cool moments featuring Superman and Shazam, Wonder Woman and Big Barda, and strong character interactions between the remaining champions and their chosen teammates.

I'm anxious to see where all of this is heading and I look forward to seeing how each member joins and what questions they have for this special ops team.

Theres so much going on in Justice League Red #3, that I think that the heroes and readers need a breather to stop and really hash things out. Im hoping that moment comes, because in order to truly save the world, these heroes have to get to know each other better, learn teamwork and strategy and be able to truly trust each other, especially Red Tornado.

This issue was great, slowly building up to getting every team member in the room together to prepare to defend the Earth and its future. I loved that we finally got a definitive answer as to whether Red Tornado has been correct or not and that Black Adam and the team finally come face-to-face.

ustice League Red #5 is another great issue, but it feels like it ended too soonespecially with only one issue left in the series. I love this team and its members and hope we see more of them beyond this series. I need the lingering questions answered and to finally learn what the truth is.

I genuinely enjoyed this seriesand thats exactly why I want more. I want to see these heroes in their civilian lives, dealing with friends, family, and everyday problems alongside world-ending threats. I want deeper explorations of why they clash, why they connect, and why they still choose to fight together. This team deserves another chance to tell its story. Given the opportunity, Justice League Red could grow into something truly specialand that potential alone makes it worth revisiting.

Justice League #10 is definitely an issue, heck the entire series, is a must for any real DC Comic book fans. This series has me waiting for its arrival at my local comic book shop with each issue release. With Waid and Mora, you cant go wrong. Apokolips is coming! I dont want to miss an issue and I cant wait for more!

Waid and Mora continue to deliver one of the most consistently excellent series on shelves today and Justice League Unlimited #12 is no exception. Several emotional moments hit hard, speaking to the weight of destiny and the finality of the battles we all face in life. Im eagerly looking forward to the next issue.

Justice League Unlimited #17 doesn’t just deal with the aftermath—it lives in it. It shifts from spectacle to consequence and forces both heroes and readers to sit with what victory actually means. Mark Waid and this creative team deliver a thoughtful, emotionally grounded chapter that proves something important: The battle may be over, but the real story is just beginning.

Justice League Unlimited #18 keeps the momentum of this story arc moving forward while balancing a large cast of characters with clarity and purpose. It delivers a compelling exploration of whether villains should be given a chance at redemption—and whether some simply cannot be trusted, no matter the circumstances. It also offers a striking reflection of the justice system through the eyes of those who repeatedly face the same threats and offenders. That perspective adds a layer of realism to an otherwise cosmic narrative.

Justice League Unlimited #19 is full of memorable and jaw-dropping moments, including that Batman line I mentioned earlier, a creepy scene with Starro, an inspiring scene with Dr. Neal Emerson, a.k.a. Doctor Polaris, and two “oh crap” moments: one because of Guy Gardner’s irresponsibility and a frightening one involving Air Wave. We also get more points of view from villains and heroes about the amnesty program.

Justice League Unlimited #20 is a fast-paced, visually spectacular chapter with strong character work, high-stakes action and plenty of reasons to be nervous about the Villain Amnesty program. I would have loved even more time on the Watchtower, but that is not a weakness. It simply proves how compelling Waid and the creative team have made that storyline.

Justice League Unlimited #21 delivers tremendous action, amusing dialogue, incredible artwork, two simultaneous adventures and a promising preview of Batman and Lex Luthor’s upcoming assignment together. As Lex Luthor and Otis famously asked in Superman: The Movie, “What more could anyone ask?”

Justice League Unlimited #22 is an action-packed, mystery-filled powerhouse that makes Despero feel like a major threat, deepens the intrigue surrounding the League and leaves the door wide open for something even bigger on the horizon.

Supergirl: Survive #1 is the right book at the right time, especially with the new Supergirl movie releasing later this month. This issue can work hand in hand with the film by welcoming new readers and fans into the world of Kara Zor-El and her baby cousin. More importantly, it reminds readers that Kara is not just Superman’s cousin. She is a survivor, a protector and a hero with a powerful story of her own.

Supergirl: Survive #2 puts readers directly into the danger and raises the stakes as Krypton’s last survivors go from refugees to valuable targets. Kara and Kal’s journey is not only going to shape who they become, but it may also change the lives of everyone they encounter across the universe.

Supergirl: Survive #3 is another excellent addition to this Elseworlds story about Kara and Kal’s journey toward Earth. At its heart, this issue is about hope—hope for the future, a new home, a life beyond survival and the possibility that happiness can still exist after unimaginable loss.

Superman 2026 Annual: Year One Thousand #1 is an incredible chapter in the story of Superman—past, present and future. Williamson understands that Superman stories can involve gods, collapsing realities and threats to the entire timestream, but none of that matters unless Clark Kent remains at the center. This annual celebrates Superman’s power without forgetting his humanity. It reminds us that Clark’s greatest strength will always be his heart, compassion, love for Lois and refusal to stop believing that lives are worth saving.

Superman Unlimited #4 adds to the rich, interesting storyline that Slott and Albuquerque have been crafting since issue one. Im looking forward to seeing what they have in store for Superman, his friends, his enemies and his world in future issues.

Superman Unlimited #5 "Into the Heart of the Kryptonite Kingdom: Part One of Two: Man of Gold continues the fascinating tale Slott and Albuquerque have been crafting since issue one. I continue looking forward to seeing what they have in store for Superman, his friends, his enemies and his world in future issues, especially after the end of this issue.

'Superman Unlimited #6' forges boldly ahead in this evolving, Kryptonite-filled landscape that has changed life for every Kryptonianand every enemy of Kryptoniansacross the globe. Supermans golden transformation gives him a temporary edge, but it also makes him vulnerable once that immunity fades. The question is no longer if his enemies will strike, but whenand what happens when they use the remnants of his home planet against him.

Superman Unlimited #9 earns its high score through confident pacing, sharp characterization, and a strong balance between classic Superman storytelling and darker modern stakes. Seeing the iconic phrase Look up in the sky twisted into something sinister was both shocking and effective.

Superman Unlimited #10 delivers a confident, character-driven conclusion to an entertaining two-parter. By centering Clark Kent’s intellect as much as Superman’s power, this creative team reminds readers why the character has endured for generations. The balance of classic villainy, modern intensity, heartfelt character moments, and clean storytelling makes this issue stand out.

uperman Unlimited #11 is a must-read for anyone who has been a fan of Jonathan Kent since he arrived during the 2015 Convergence event and the Superman: Lois & Clark (2016) miniseries. For anyone who wants to get to know him without reading 10 years of comics to catch up, this is the issue for you. This issue shows you all that Jon Kent has been, is, and will be—and it continues this exciting new event in the Super-Family books.

Superman: The Kryptonite Spectrum #1 is everything a first issue should be bold in concept, stunning in execution, and filled with hooks that leave you impatient for the next chapter. The covers are worth collecting on their own, the art and colors pull you into every page, and the story promises a thrilling, emotional, and dangerous journey through Kryptonites rainbow of possibilities.

The only downside of reviewing 'Superman: The Kryptonite Spectrum' each month is having to wait for the adventure to continue. In the meantime, Ill imagine what could be next in this great series!

Superman: The Kryptonite Spectrum #3 is another stellar entryfull of fun, character, action, and heartfelt storytelling. The flashbacks and the device used to present them are brilliant, especially given the characters youthful transformations in this issue. I only wish these issues were longer or that the series would continue beyond five parts. I love watching Superman interact with his fellow heroes, revealing both their similarities and their contrasts. Seeing them team up against powerful foes never gets old. Despite a small coloration inconsistency early on, the story and artwork shine. The inventive flashback mechanism, its explanation, and execution completely won me over. It worked perfectly, and Im eagerly awaiting the next chapter to see where this incredible series takes Superman next.

Superman: The Kryptonite Spectrum Book 4 is a mind-bending odyssey through the Fifth Dimension that catapults us toward the grand finale of this phenomenal series. Its witty, dizzying, and utterly engaging from first page to last.

Superman: The Kryptonite Spectrum #5 is a great ending to a series that has been spot on from the beginning. The ending was a great pay off from the strong Book I's opening issue. It's a great end to the Spectrum tests and hopefully a doorway to a follow up in the very near future.
