Something vile is lurking just beneath the surface of the fathomless floodwaters. As the rivalry between the various factions of monsters heats up on Shrae's Ark, an evil from below rises to threaten every human life on board the vessel. From writer Cullen Bunn (X-Men Blue, Deadpool, Venom) and artist Juan Doe (AMERICAN MONSTER, WORLD READER) comes a sinister tale of biblical proportions that HAD to be told at AfterShock Comics.
Dark Ark #3 successfully ramps up the story as it brings the tension to a breaking point and then leaves the reader at the edge until the next issue. The first two magnificent issues should absolutely be enjoyed along with this one. Now is the perfect time to hop on board this loathsome boat of beautiful terrors. Read Full Review
Every issue of Dark Ark has left me wanting more. Writer Cullen Bunn is telling a terrific story that is only getting better with each chapter. The mix of monsters in an enclosed space provides an environment of great tension and terror. Read Full Review
Dark Ark presents a pretty nicely done twist to how events played out with Maldoon's death and spends its time focusing on the array of creatures and how none will step up in the face of what the vampires represent. Cullen Bunn has a lot of fun coming up with the various defenses and some of the interactions that exist between the races and you get a good sense that Juan Doe is just having a blast with all these layouts and creature designs, giving them more details in the close up moments but also filling out a large ensemble piece wonderfully. This still doesn't feel like a book I would normally check out and enjoy but it's working for me in a big way and I can't wait to see what the end payoff is with it and what twists may still be in store. This issue was… unexpected. I fully expected the murder mystery to play out longer until the eventual confrontation but that wouldn't be for another issue or two. Instead, things shift in many ways and it has me excited to see what happens next. Read Full Review
This book is quality, and it times the story switches just at the right time to sustain the reader's attention. The series is so good that I haven't been able to make my joke about the characters not needing an Ark because they are all treading water. Oh look I managed to squeeze it in anyway. Seriously though, this is a top book, and another piece of top quality output - which is now becoming expected - from Aftershock Comics. Read Full Review
Despite its myriad of flaws, I cant say to outright avoid Dark Ark. It does have a number of positives from the premise itself to the stalwart sorcerer Shrae. It just needs to play more towards its own strengths. The murder mystery element isnt bad, but the story wanted a scenario which doesnt feel organic in the setting. In any case, feel free to try this one if it sounds up your alley. I can recommend it, but, if the premise itself doesnt spark some interest, you should likely steer clear. Read Full Review
