This was a perfect one-shot comic for many reasons, one of the biggest was this book has re-readability. I've read it five times as of today. It was fun, entertaining, intelligent, and intriguing tall tales. Read Full Review

I often find that with most comics the standard size isn't enough to convey a story completely enough to feel satisfying, story elements are left unfinished to entice you to read on to the next issue and beyond. In this comic not only do we get three different stories but they all feel complete and not lacking at all. Read Full Review
A priest recalls his life in service of stopping evil before he succumbs to his own death. He tells the story of a hunt for an evil that preyed on those close to his home and when he and his brothers took up arms to track down the beast, they find something unexpected. This is a very short story and the ambivalence of its ending bothered me when I first read it. It's a fine story that seems to be building to something interesting, but it falls flat right at the end. Read Full Review
I really enjoyed this book. The art ranges from solid to great across the 3 shorts and the writing is spectacular aside from "The longest night" but even that one is simply generic rather than outright bad. The main characters in the first and third stories were brilliant too. It's really amazing how much a good writer can make you care about a character within a handful of pages. This book might even end up a contender for my best issue of 2020 at the end of the year. Read Full Review
All in all, the first story is the best. The second story was decent and the last wasn't my favorite. It is still a decent enough entry into this universe and I liked this comic. The first story, again, is the best reason for reading this. Read Full Review
Overall, this is a good one-shot with a great Hellboy story and two clever stories following that. If you're a fan of storytelling in general, don't miss this. Read Full Review
Even though Hellboy has been dead for some time, there's still a wealth of stories to tell throughout his long life. I'm glad that we continue to get these snippets of supernatural adventure. The possibilities are endless for what else is in store for us. In the case of the Winter Special, it certainly far more entertaining than The Polar Express. Read Full Review
The quality of storytelling and love of folklore present in each ensures readers won't be let down by a single entry, and will likely find something they'll want to return to during future winter seasons. Read Full Review
All three stories in 2018's Winter Special felt complete. 2019's Special gave us two stories that mainly existed as teasers, and while they certainly worked as teasers, it does put a cap on how much satisfaction a reader can get from them. That said, seeing Lszl, del Duca, and Mutti doing such fantastic work makes the "Hellboy Winter Special 2019" absolutely worth it. Read Full Review
So while the Hellboy Winter Special doesn't give those readers hungry for a whole host of Hellboy goodness a huge amount of the devilish hero, it delivers three horrifically fascinating narrative tales that crawl their way across each page with ghoulish delight. It's a great read for horror fans and longtime Hellboy readers alike. Read Full Review
