Batman gets some Kryptonite to lure Metallo, and this works. Metallo consumes the Kryptonite, but it overloads his system, and he shuts down. Batman has also re-broken his back. And it ends saying that Superman was too good, and the world will have to settle for Batman. Read Full Review

All in all this was a really good issue. Batman Superman Futures End #1 uses what we know about Futures End in a way that anyone can get into without reading the actual series. I highly suggest anyone who enjoys Superman and Batman stories to go buy Batman Superman Futures End #1 for a story that doesn't happen a lot in a DC Comic. Read Full Review

Unlike the dull confusion of Earth-2, the cryptic nature of Batman/Superman is actually intriguing. What happened during the "invasion"? What the hell was it? It seems that the current comic world has put Batman up on a pedestal. It has made him all-powerful and uber-cool. It has made him him look brilliant while making Superman look naive and moronic. This is the first comic I have seen in a while to show that a world where Batman is the inspiration is going to be a a dark place. For that reason only, I have to applaud this book. If you want details right now about the events that take place during the Earth 2 war, then this will disappoint. Like the rest of theseFutures EndMonth titles, the is little furthering of a “future” plot. It asks more questions than it answers. The beauty of this issue, though, is that you don't have to have all the answers to feel the tension between Bruce and Clark. Reading it with wide eyes and not expecting to have the world turned upside down will make this comic more enjoyable. Read Full Review

Another aspect of this book that turned me off was having three artists working on it. Even though the art styles are similar, I still found it distracting and difficult to focus on. One high note was the few pages involving the battle between Batman and Metallo, a true David and Goliath matchup. For a one-shot book, my over-all impression isn't too lively and I can only hope that other titles in the Futures End event are more gratifying. Read Full Review

Batman/Superman: Futures End #1 is an unecessary book held back by the Futures End Event it is supposed to be a part of.  Superman is missing and Batman is trying to carry on without him.  It'd be a bit easier if he wasn't torn apart at the seams himself, but when does Batman care about easy?  The score below is indicative of how I felt about the issue, but doesn't express my feelings for writer Greg Pak.  He literally had the odds stacked against him and made something (almost) good out of a bad situation.  It's still not good enough for me to recommend it to any one but a Futures End completest.
