Batman / Superman: World's Finest #42 continues another exciting arc that demonstrates why this is one of the best series to come out of DC in recent years. The creative team, especially Adrin Gutirrez and Matt Herms, pack the issue cover to cover with pure fun. It is hard to take Bizarro World seriously, but Waid, along with the artists and Steve Wands, balance the ridiculousness of the world with a seriousness that shows that the stakes are high. Batman/Superman: World's Finest #42 continues the trio's adventure through Bizarro World and all the ridiculous characters that entails. The larger narrative is mostly an excuse to have fun with these absurd reverse-caricatures, which mostly still works because they're delightfully goofy and deliver some solid gags. Perhaps I am judging that middle scene too harshly and just let the silliness wash over me. Or perhaps it is the high bar I expect from this title that made that stand out a little more to me. I appreciate Waid trying to interrogate the contradictory ideas of Bizarro World but it's never entirely successful. And is Waid writing too many books now?
