As I stated above the conversation about mental health in this issue is great but unexpected. I was hoping to see something like this in Arkham Manor.Batman's interest in the Cobblepot Diary finally made me care about Olive's obsession with that book.I didn't notice any homages to Batman history in this issue. This is by far the best issue of recent issues of Gotham Academy. Each character's individuality shines through in dialogue, from Colton's “The Fuzz!” to Maps' “Oh my crap!” Becky Cloonan and Brenden Fletcher write some of the most fun dialogue and engaging storytelling in current comics. I haven't been picking up too many DC Comics books in the last couple of years, but I tried this one when it first came out and have fallen in love with it. I do try to temper my enthusiasm for it since I know I'm practically fanboying about it in some ways, but this first six issue run here is the kind of book that when it does hit in trade, you want to make sure copious copies flow to kids so they can get in on a comic book that's closer to their ages with the cast and with a great, creepy lense through which to look at the world. There's plenty of Harry Potter feelings to this series in a lot of ways and if DC Comics isn't looking to figure out how to mass market this series, then they're failing horribly at attracting younger and newer readers to their properties. This is a fantastic book from a great team that has a ton of potential ahead of them, potential that I can't wait to see more of exercised. Very recommended. Read Full Review

In conclusion, Gotham Academy #6 is an amazing book. While the writing is on par with what has come before, at times it could have been a bit clearer. The Croc fight could have been a bigger part of the issue. These problems are minor and this is still one of the best books that DC is putting out. If Gotham Academy was an experiment by DC then this was a resounding success. With the June releases going a bit indie and more diverse, this book can be looked at as the one who started it all and has a potentially great future. Read Full Review

Gotham Academy has everything. Romance, mystery, suspense, high school drama, a cast that gets better with every issue, and most importantly, a great creative team. An epilogue containing a huge tease about the future of the series (and a new matriculating student) could cause some alarm that the series might be switching its focus and aligning itself more resolutely into the Batman universe. But this issue, successfully utilizing both Batman and Killer Croc without overwhelming or sidetracking the current narrative, makes the case that despite adding a new and colorful character, Cloonan, Fletcher, and Kerschl et al will ensure the same level of high quality they've maintained since the series' lauded debut. The series still stands out as one to watch at DC, only it must be noted that once again a big DC wide crossover is thrown into the mix and will have an impact on this series. It would seem as though the series is teetering on some kind of a breaking point as the epilogue throws a bit more Batman into the Academy, which might work for the series and it might not. Nonetheless this issue works where it needs to, and while it might not be as strong as others in the series, its quality is still above what to expect from other series. Read Full Review

The resolution of the Millie Jane Cobblepot diary subplot feels rushed, and the truth about Olive's mother is still held back for later in the series. This is a tease, so expectations for the future payoff are now duly raised. The revelation about Arkham was well-timed and fascinating, however, and the teaser scene drawn by Chen at the end is light, bright and full of mischievous promise. Issue #6 provides a solid turning point for this series. Some loose ends are tied up, but what draws in the reader is still in full force. Big questions are left to be answered until later in the series. Gotham Academy #6 is a decent conclusion to the first storyline, but not without its own little problems. The writing is good and the story wraps up nicely, but the inconsistent coloring and conclusions to some of the plotlines leave a bit to be desired.
