Only an Annual could contain this chapter of "SUPERMAN: DOOMED"! It's an all-out assault by the heroes of Earth (superpowered and not) on the God of War, Wonder Woman, who's leading the charge against all manner of alien attackers. The monstrous Superman smashes through everything friend or foe as his de-evolution reaches a critical stage. It all leads to their best hope: the Phantom Zone?!
I can't stress how good this issue was. It pretty much had everything. A great story, non-stop action and incredible art. Charles Soule has given the reader what I think is the best Superman: Doomed chapter yet. Highly Recommended. Read Full Review
Superman/Wonder Woman has been one of my favorite New 52 series and it's because it produces issues like this. Soule's writing with the incredible artwork makes for one of the best superhero comics out there, and this one is able to incorporate a large amount of those heroes. It's an exciting read 'til the very last page and that's where Soule takes it a step further. A crazy end for a crazy good issue. Read Full Review
I liked that this issue feels a little like a DC Trinity issue. All three main characters have important roles, and while one of them happens to be the mainvillain, it's still great to seethem all acting together. Read Full Review
Soule really takes Superman and Wonder Womans relationship to the extreme here with a full on confrontation or lets say fight, but the real fight that I found quite impressive was the one that is happening internally to Superman. It has probably been the highlight of this event the way Clark has struggled from within SuperSpikeyMan, and has really shown, for one of the first times in The New 52, the personality and the strength of will and morality that Clark has, and in this issue it was delivered so well and really contributed to a major part of this issue. As a large part of the continuing story, the SUPERMAN/WONDER WOMAN annual was an impressive statement, focusing on the main battle and giving it the attention the event deserved. Complemented by amazing artwork and a great edgy story line it was definitely a great read that will make you want to go back for the rest of the story. Read Full Review
Charles Soule does his best to focus on the characters while the world, and its heroes fight to survive. In that respect, he succeeds, but at the cost of many story moments lost in the chaos. Read Full Review
That overall conflict is still unresolved. Superman is still infected by Doomsday and the invasion by Brainiac is not over. Superman/Wonder Woman Annual #1 succeeded in expanding the scope and scale of this conflict, but did little to expand upon the personal drama. It had the feel of a Superman comic more than a Superman/Wonder Woman comic. There was plenty of room for melodramatic substance, but that room was taken up by theatrical style. Overall, it helped move the Superman: Doomed narrative forward in a meaningful way, but with less emotional weight than previous entries. This is still a conflict that's going to require more than a few date nights and flower bouquets to work through, but it's not going to require extensive couple's therapy just yet. Read Full Review
A mindlessly entertaining action-fest that's largely predictable, but occasionally worthwhile. Read Full Review
Add to that the feints of what is a threat and what isn't and I am starting to feel a little bored, despite all the action. It makes me wish that this story was ending sooner than it is. And there were 2 more chapters released yesterday. Read Full Review
The "Superman: Doomed" crossover has had a long, bumpy ride. With narrative issues, multiple collaborations, and forced tie-ins, "Superman: Doomed" will be remembered, but not for the right reasons. Although Superman/Wonder Woman has done a good job of tying loose ends together and developing a good story out of a forced one, they were not able to capture lightning in a bottle this time. Story was good but could've used better writing
Good, not great.
