What happens when an indomitable force meets an irritating object? That’s what readers find out when Superman runs into Lobo. Think of it like a boy scout joining a biker gang. What will be worse, the damage Lobo causes on his own, or the chaos of trying to stop him? I smell a team-up, fanboys! Numen is the most popular being in the universe, a god clogging all social channels. And he does not like competition. This means Superman and Lobo must go. Further complicating things is Dr. Flik, a scientist determined to study the last sons of Krypton and Czarnia respectively. What can she glean from the hero who lost everything as a baby and the more

Mirka Andolfo delivers some beautifully detailed art throughout the issue. The characters look amazing and the style brilliantly captures the tone and mood of the story. Both the action and humor are eye-catching. Read Full Review

It's completely nuts, and maybe the most worthy use of the Black Label brand in a while. Read Full Review

Superman vs. Lobos first issue was a wild hybrid of good and wild. It doesnt always work, but the approach makes for a worthwhile read. The creative team collectively takes a wild swing at doing something very different with both characters. Read Full Review

But Why Tho? - William Tucker Aug 24, 2021

Superman vs Lobo #1 is a mad and enjoyable issue. The story may not be the most engaging within this world all on its own, but these aspects are almost second inside this book. This comic may have been better suited to being called a Lobo Standup Special, as that is where the real brilliance can be found. Those that are a fan of the writers, Beatties comedy style in particular, may find it an entertaining ride to tag along with. The second issue looks to be a completely different setting and story, and it will be interesting to see how that is handled. Read Full Review

    AIPT - Ben Morin Aug 24, 2021

Is Superman vs. Lobo #1 worth the price of admission? For fans of Lobo or Andolfo's art it might be, but the issue doesn't offer much else. Despite its oversized length, it doesn't do much to deserve its prestige status or the accompanying higher price point. The story remains generic at best and the humor's mileage will vary by reader. At the end of the day, Superman vs. Lobo #1 is a fairly middling debut with great art that tries to make up for the lackluster story. Read Full Review

Superman vs. Lobo #1 fails to pass even the basic test of any story by justifying its own existence in any compelling or reasonable way. Spend your hard-earned money on anything else this week. Read Full Review

If this were another one-shot vehicle for Lobo to deliver jokes, no matter how poorly crafted, it might be more forgivable, but the words "TO BE CONTINUED" left me wishing I'd never begun reading. Read Full Review

Probably the most enjoyable Superman story I've read in a while.

A just for fun story about a cat and mouse dynamic between the Man of Steel and the Main Man. I'm always entertained by Lobo's crude personality even if he is the biggest bastich in the universe. An important thing to note that this comic brings up is that despite Lobo's attitude; he's not really stupid. He's a genius egotist always looking to upstage everybody around him for a few seconds of fame.

It's why he's usually clashed with Superman; they're both extremely simple character who can make creative situations. But while Superman's aspirational hopes and dreams; Lobo's every fantasy fans are inhibited from doing.

Lobo taking the influencer route to get a few over Superman fits well into his character. Lobo will do more

This wasn't as bad as I was expecting, I suspect that is because Sarah Beattie is the one scripting the issue, rather than Seeley, and that helps a lot.

They're some great ideas on this book like the hilarous use of internet haters, but the exagerated amount of text, slow pacing and weird art makes me not enjoy the entire story. Anyways, the last page kinda keeps my atention but still im a little bit disappointed for this story :(

There's something about Seeley's writing that just doesn't work for me.

Don't see how this is black label, they even still censor themselves.
Lex makes a social media platform and Lobo uses it to cancel Superman.

I don't know how you could make a lobo vs superman comic uninteresting, but they seem to be finding a way.

Plus something about Seeley's writing of Lobo seems super off. Partially because of the shitty setup of the comic, but also in just his general attitude and dialogue.

Reviewing the first issue of the new Superman vs. Lobo series coming from DC Comics under their Black Label imprint. I picked this up knowing full well that DC is handling Lobo about as well as I handle a stick shift, but even I was not prepared for some of the finer details in this book.
