Nah, Chip Zdarsky is definitely not the best writer Red Hood has ever had, he didn't give a solid story was good but not the best, I'm not denying Zdarsky's ability but Lost Days, Under the Hood were better stories than this one.

@Merlyn Leaving aside Lobdell's perversions and my wishes that he receive a just punishment for his wickedness. Lobdell had great ideas, but sometimes his writing was lazy. Zdarsky did a good job as a writer, but his predilection was more towards Batman, No Zdarsky hasn't been the best thing that has happened to Red Hood, nor the worst, Judd Winick made two great classics, Geoff Johns despite some ramblings he also did very well. Lobdell gave Red Hood incredible things, All-Cast, resurrecting Willis was a good idea, but was not well managed(Taylor copied that idea with Nightwing and his half sister) Solitary, the Untitled were good characters, however they could have a better development.

I didn't know about Thorne's views prior to Future State until reviewers brought it up. Not huge GL fan, mostly JSA-era. But I think the idea of Hal Jordan as a test pilot being "fearless" was a narrative that 20th century writers understood. I don't think 21st century readers (and writers) literally have any idea why that matters. Concept of a test pilot (if they knew what it was) won't make sense to them today. No exp of USSR & constant thermonuclear war threat in lives, so defense means ?

Good and bad from storylines spanning nearly a century. In JSA era 1930s-1940s, there was a Green Lantern defending U.S. steel mills from being undermined by corrupt gangsters and saboteurs, and readers understood need to protect U.S. industry. Much of today's readers and none of the writers would understand this at all, but at the time important story line. Same thing applies to Hal and 1960s-1970s era. What I cheered, many readers today would like in puzzlement. World changes.

Oh and if anyone looks at this comment don't take any of those 10 out of 10 reviews seriously. There's so many review sites that just want to kiss the ass of the publishers so they can get a quote on the trade paperback so they give everything a 9 out of 10 or a 10 out of 10 and it's a bunch of crap.

Notice how almost always the critic reviews are 1 or 2 points above the user reviews. There's a reason for that. Users don't feel the need to kiss DC or Marvel's ass, they just give their honest opinion, unlike critics.

I thought the reason was that the fans review bomb with 1's (because they do and critics don't), and I'm not aware of any critic I've read in the last several years getting a gig out of it (because they haven't), but thanks for educating me. I guess I'm pretty dumb. :(

Hey @merlyn don’t lump ever regular reviewer together - I would never lump 5he user reviewers together! Funny how you say every reviewer is 1 or 2 points above user review score since that is not true at all

WeirdScience is not doing that, I read your reviews very often and I find them pretty objective. Yes, that's true, but I really don' want to do this dance with you.

I agree with so many sites kissing butt... it’s more about getting advanced review copies if you ask me. It drives me insane just as much as everyone here! That’s why I also read everyone’s user reviews and understand why the user scores are a lot more accurate sometimes than the “critics” ... because the users are actually buying the stuff and have nothing to lose or gain! Way too many 10/10s going around from most sites. A random issue of any book is treated like an instant classic!

I just was pointing it out because we actually get crap from companies and other sites for being honest, which they say is toxic or overly negative! That’s why I hang in the user reviews!

Lol do DC and Marvel come at you because you don't rate their books highly enough? And other sites? How does that work? I can't say I'm really surprised but I didn't know about any of that. I found it okay, though Teen Lantern is very, very annoying. And I'm tired of the "Guardians are bad" plotline, it's been done hundreds of times, at this point I'd be fine with them disappearing altogether if that means writers can come up with something that doesn't involve them.

Wouldn't say that publishers come at you - but they may choose to ignore you. Many "review sites" get the books in advance for free and I'm sure they don't want to lose that perk. I know a GL site that has, or at least had, some renown. At one point DC was contacting them to do interviews and gave them things like exclusive previews. Since the site was honest in their reviews and was critical of some things they are pretty much ignored now. Shame to, it's still a great site.

@WeirdScienceJim Sometimes I give things a 10 because I feel like the overall score is down and I want to bump it up that .1 percentage point lol. I usually only review a book I feel strongly about one way or the other. If I hate it I give an actual score, if I love it I try to bump up it's overall percentage point.

@GL Fan 2814: That's pretty terrible. Then again, I know these companies don't have a single moral bone in their fiber, at best they virtue signal to boost their sales and to fool gullible fans. If you want to give the name of that site I'll access it just because they had the guts to speak their mind. If I like it, maybe I'll visit it more in the future too.

to be fair, we were offered the review copies from DC after a review I did for Batman and Robin Eternal that I gave a 3/10 and the PR guy said he liked it because, "You used lots of curse words and shit". I know for a fact, thoughm that sites are scared that if they give bad scores they will get the review copies taken from them like GL Fan 2814 said.

and there are sites that push for the trade cover quotes, but personally, I look at those as looking like you are a shill for the company, but that's just me
