This first issue hits the ground running with an intriguing story and some edge of your seat suspense. Patrick Horvath does an excellent job of bringing the reader into the despair of a sister in search of her missing brother. The heartbreaking story of her last eight years puts the reader in her shoes and makes us face her world of despair and the disappointment of not knowing the truth. Meanwhile, the suspense is mostly due to her hope of a resolution, well also waiting for the reveal of our favorite antagonist. Read Full Review

Patrick Horvath’s return to Woodbrook deftly expands the original series, introducing Monica Brewer, a new character who is the sister of Samantha’s victim from original series’ debut issue. Monica’s POV is expertly woven into the story’s established lore, setting the stage for a compelling new arc.

Horvath takes a bold leap by dedicating a significant portion establishing Monica’s character rather than returning immediately to Sam, and it’s a risk that pays off. Monica’s story is heartbreaking, as she’s forced to put her life on hold for years in pursuit of closure for her brother’s murder. Her adoption of a new, unfulfilling life makes her an immediate sympathetic and tragic central figure.
