GI Joe 17 raised an already high measuring stick, but this series seems like it can continually clear it. As usual, its going to be a very long month until the next installment. Read Full Review

The Dreadnok War concludes with a sensational finish. Williamson weaves in the many sides of Cobra Commander through a chaotic stand-off with G.I. Joe. Reilly and Bellaire construct a non-stop thrill ride for fans to hop on-board. The conclusion stops everything at a drop of a dime. It's just another example of why this series is one of the best at the shops today. Read Full Review

G.I. JOE #17 is a fantastic end to the Dreadnok War. Joshua Williamson and Tom Reilly nail how big the final battle of this story needed to be to show why this was an event. Everyone involved comes out better, whether it is by chemistry or interest level. The multiple hook endings kick off 2026 as strong as possible for the Energon Universe. Read Full Review

You Don't Read Comics - Russ Bickerstaff Jan 14, 2026

It's a very dangerous dynamic that seems to be coming through all the various angles of the various elements of the Energon Universe that Skybound is bringing to the comics page between this and a few other titles. Its fun to watch everything collide together in different ways. Theres a lot of energy being brought to the massive shared-universe crossover thats been fun thus far. There are a lot of directions that Williamson and company could take the series in. Given the amount of brutality thats alreeady come across the page, things could get VERY messy in the near future. Comical Opinions - Gabriel Hernandez Jan 14, 2026

G.I. JOE #17 absolutely earns a look if you are invested in the Energon Universe or the "Dreadnok War arc, because the plot twists, character maneuvers, and final reveal all matter, and they land clean. If your comic budget can only handle razor-sharp scripts paired with equally sharp visuals, the muddy coloring and flattened action might push this one into "wait for a sale territory. For readers who prize story momentum, big turns, and a nasty cliffhanger over pristine art, this is still a smart pickup. Everyone else may want to flip through first and decide how much visual grime they are willing to tolerate for a strong strategic endgame. Read Full Review

What a great ending to this arc. I liked Cobra Commander turning the tides, simply by offering money and a partnership. Destro finally deciding that Cobra Commander was needed for Cobra to be successful. I was wondering all of this time where Zartan had gone and boom, he finally shows up. Good stuff.

The Dreadnok War was an exciting chapter in this new G.I.Joe / Energon series … however I feel this last chapter - G.I. Joe #17, fell a little short of expectations. Well … no … it was exactly what I expected and that was the problem I had with this issue. Outside of the last few pages - everything that happened in this issue was pretty much what I thought would happen. Not saying it’s bad … no … just the opposite - it was a quality ending, I guess I just wanted more. Without too many spoilers - the sequences played out in a very predictable way and frankly after such an “epic event” I expected more of a status quo shift. Yes, Yes there was the epilogue (which I also predicted - just with a different Joe) … I just wanted m more
