What started as some kind of hommage to the classic spandex costume hero genre, ended up being one the best stories I've ever read on the last couple of years. Pick it up read the first 12 issues and you will not be able to stop. Also Ryan Ottley has a fantastic art style.
I don't find the art to be that special. It gives the book a bit of a independent feel but I do enjoy the introductions to the new characters that we will get to know better in this series. Kirkman's writing is always pretty dependable.
The first issue of the greatest superhero series of all time! Starts off a little slow, but picks up almost instantly. Still to this day my favorite comic book series. Robert and Walker started something truly special with this comic, and I'm glad it continued for as long as it did.
