A NATION DOOMED! It's a showdown between DOOM and CAPTAIN AMERICA with the fate of Latveria hanging in the balance! As Doom prepares a fatal strike against those who stand against him, a sudden betrayal has Cap on the ropes and questioning everything he thought he knew…
Captain America #4 is an explosive and poignant issue that delivers a gut-punch of political reality alongside a satisfying superhero showdown, weaving Steve's classic idealism with Dave's modern disillusionment. Zdarsky and the creative team have made a Captain America story that feels both mythic and painfully real. It's an absolute pull that sets up a fascinating and likely tragic collision between the two Captains in the next issue. Read Full Review

Captain America #4 focuses on combat, so there is little story progression, but it is still a strong issue with interesting techniques, great art, and good character moments. Read Full Review
Captain America #4 is a gripping showcase of duality, the contrast between idealism and disillusionment, between the myth of the hero and the trauma of the soldier. Chip Zdarsky continues to craft a nuanced, politically charged narrative that balances grand-scale superhero spectacle with raw, emotional honesty. Valerio Schiti's art captures both the chaos of battle and the intimate humanity beneath the masks, making every clash between Doom, Steve, and Dave feel monumental. By threading modern warfare, moral compromise, and patriotism into one explosive issue, Zdarsky proves that Captain America can still be both mythic and painfully real. Read Full Review
Schiti crafts beautifully detailed art throughout the issue. I love that there is a classic look to the moments with Steve Rogers versus Doom and how that contrasts to the darker, grittier image of Coltons mission. Read Full Review
I liked the previous issue that dug into the role of Latveria during different World Wars, and how Cap inspired Doom a little better, but the series continues to be solid. Read Full Review
Plot
Steve Rogers manages to stop the public execution of Marius Wolf (leader of the resistance against Doom in Latveria), beginning a public battle with Doom and his Doombots, buying time for the other Captain America, Dave Colton, to locate the only survivors of the embassy, the ambassador's husband and daughter.
Steve Rogers manages to play on Doom's ego and they fight. Using a device from Reed Richards, Steve neutralizes Doom's suit's weapons and removes his mask, leaving him at his most vulnerable, so he retreats.
Colton and the new Howling Commandos arrive at the location of the ambassador's husband and daughter. Colton doesn't realize when one of the Howling Commandos soldiers murders the ambassador's more
I like this issue. Still feel like the art looks rushed in some parts. Almost looks like a different artist is doing the Steve Rogers pages. The Colton pages just look more finished. And just better. Odd.
Pretty dramatic and cinematic issue - I liked it! Cap Colton is an interesting character that I'd love to see more of, but since the series is set in the past, his days are most likely numbered.
Great cover as well.
