Overall, Superior Spider-Man continues to be a great read, even with it being pulled into the War of the Realms for a temporary tie-in scenario. This issue straddles the line of parody perfectly, mostly due to the team up with the West Coast Avengers team, with Ock's seriousness meshing well with some of the more ridiculous moments involving Gwenpool and the rest of the cast. Teaming up Otto Octavius with the West Coast Avengers is the very definition of "just crazy enough to work." And work it does; the combination of Otto's irrepressible smugness, Gwenpool's "meta-existential awareness", and a horde of Frost Giants that need pummelling produces delightful magic. Unlike some of the other tie-ins, this was thrilling for a lot of things going on with it that this creative team went wild with. Superior Spider-Man #7 just went guest appearance after appearance and indulged in every interaction that you would not get to see under different circumstances. Read Full Review
While the constant stream of dialogue leaves the issue feeling a bit overcrowded, it also makes the experience far more enjoyable than another unnecessary tie-in. Read Full Review
Well, this was enchanting.
Frost Giants invade San Francisco. Ock can handle that, but he admits he'll need help to tackle the no-doubt-magical origins of the problem. He recruits the West Coast Avengers and they go looking for Asgardian assistance in New York. It's a great use of the WCA and it features a surprisingly effective portrayal of Gwenpool. Christos Gage makes her sound both rational and crazy, which is a perfect take on her as a guest star.
This was fun.
