RATED T+
Ultimate Wolverine #5 is an insightful yet flawed installment of the series, offering interesting insights into Logans past and the character of Victor Creed. Condons script remains tight and focused, even as it takes time to slow the pace in one of the best sequences of the series so far. Linss artwork elevates that beat thanks to the creative blocking and use of creative negative space. The artwork does stumble with the final action sequence, losing some gas while moving to the finish line. Valenzas coloring brings the book together by making such a wide departure from the typical style, adapting to the change in setting and focusing on Creed. Overall, the issue is a good next step in the story of Logan, though it feels as though it should be at the level of great based on the quality established in the previous issue. Read Full Review

Lins brings a new and interesting style to this issue. I liked it a lot and how it visually softened the character of Creed while maintaining the sharp lines and visual menace of Logan. Read Full Review
Ultimate Wolverine #5 has the potential to deliver high-octane action and significant revelations about Wolverine's past. Long-time fans of Wolverine and Sabretooth should find this a particularly exciting chapter in the Ultimate Universe saga. Read Full Review
Ultimate Wolverine #5 gives us one of the most memorable Sabretooth portrayals in recent memory, a nasty good fight, and a sobering look at Logan's fractured psyche. The writing is tight, the flashbacks are meaningful, and the art (for the most part) lands every punch. But the bigger story is still dragging its feet, and we're starting to notice. Read Full Review
Ultimate Wolverine #5 is as fun and gritty a modern slash-em-up can get in mainstream comics. While it misses the flourishes that made the last issue a true piece of literary art, I appreciate the style and characterization this book brings nonetheless. Read Full Review

Ultimate Wolverine #5 is long on brutal, bloody action and short on plot or payoff when Logan pays a visit to the Ultimate Sabretooth. Chris Condon's scene construction and setup are top-notch, and the brutal fight, brought to life by Alex Lins, is amazing. That said, great action and art can't cover for a lack of payoff for the last issue's cliffhanger or the painfully slow plot progression. Read Full Review
